Excellent care in pre admission, admission, surgical intervention, post operative care and discharge advice. Professional, informative and individualised care and attention during my short stay. My only suggestion would be to continue the excellent standard of care.

Was admitted to WGH on 6th Feb for MVD Surgery. I was obviously nervous beforehand but was put at ease by the calmness and professionalism of the staff. I was admitted into HDU for one night after the op and cant praise the nursing highly enough on the Day and Night shift. I was then moved to Ward 33 before being discharged on 12th Feb. The staff on all shifts in the Ward were attentive and friendly and helped me with any issues i had. I praise all the staff on this ward from Domestic services, all nursing staff and clinicians. I worked for many years in the NHS and know how demanding it can be on the lives of the dedicated staff that work in it. It is just a pity that it is politicains that let the NHS down and it deserves more. Thank You, Derek.

By far the most superior empathetic staffed general hospital in the Edinburgh area in my own experience and this is also widely known throughout locals in the Edinburgh area.

In for endoscopy and was seen bang on time. My nurse was very friendly and funny (joked about being in for colonoscopy, the fear on my face). Was told because my notes showed previous infection, would have to be seen last. But still very little wait time. Tv switched off but I'm sure they would have switched it on if asked. Have to wait an hour after for sedation to wear off, and then offered hot drink and choice of sandwiches (x2). Great after having to fast. Need someone to take home, I got lost finding my partner and still being slightly sedated ended up going home without proper discharge. Got phone call to check was ok, no telling off, just checking up. Staff amazing. Not stressed at all. Even have free WiFi now. That's new.

My mum was transferred from St John's hospital to the western general at the end of September and was discharged earlier today. We as a family would like to thank the staff for the amazing care and attention she received during her time at the hospital. Special thanks go to all the staff members in wards 58 and 24 who treated my mum in a caring and professional manner.

I was admitted to Ward 57 on Tuesday 29th January and cannot praise hospital or staff highly enough for the excellent care I received. Staff on ward 57 are first class and an asset to the hospital and the NHS.Thanks for everything Stuart Galloway

From my first breast cancer appointment in September until my final radiotherapy treatment on 17th December, I am indebted to all the wonderful practitioners I met on my journey. My operation took place in the Western General but as I live outwith its catchment area it was suggested I would attend the Beatson or Monklands for my follow up treatment. I requested to remain with the Western General as I had gained such great trust and faith in all who dealt with me. Latterly, throughout my radiotherapy, the attitude, the skill and the care given by the team of radiographers surely carried me through this difficult time. They are a great team and such a credit to the Western General. However it's hard to suggest a particular practitioner or team was better than the others. I will continue with my follow care and appointments taking place at the Western General in the knowledge that I am well cared for and valued.
