More one to one care would be appreciated, some of the nursing staff did not engage with the patients at all .I feel that there should always be someone to talk to,after all it is a psychiatric establishment.

My son took his own life whilst a patient on the Avocet Ward, he was allowed out unescorted despite being high risk and when he failed to return the Missing Persons Policy was not implemented. The British Transport Police came to my house to inform me that my son was dead. (Appalling) We were assured that he would be safe and looked after in the unit. Three nurses were disciplined and staff failings were admitted. Communication between the Consultant in charge and staff was poor as was completion of important paperwork. The public need to be aware that this is not a safe unit as patients regularly go AWOL and this was not the first suicide to happen here. Lessons are not being learned because this continues to happen in mental health units up and down the country. I would welcome an independent enquiry when such incidents occur and perhaps then families will get answers to all the questions they have. Myself and my family are devastated by the loss of our son and our lives will never be the same. This was completely preventable and avoidable and steps need to be taken to prevent such a tragedy occurring ever again.

Absolutely disgusting care! Do not go here unless you really have too! Do not come here involuntary! You are treated as a prisoner and they are keeping me here against my will now Which they keep saying they are not allowed to do But are refusing to let me out so I can go home! Have never ever been in a worst hospital!

Initially my partner felt his experience of Avocet Ward was positive after being admitted informally following the second attempt on his life in 6 months. However once ready for discharge 10 days later they let him leave with no follow up care plan in place. After a very bad experience with UCAT after the first attempt on his life he asked not to be referred to them again. (UCAT had done nothing but hand out medication and failed to refer him to the relevant services as promised). The Welland centre had no other follow up care to offer other than UCAT, so let him leave and suggested he continue with the private assessment he had decided to pay for because he had been stuck on a long (18 month) NHS waiting list for 5 months already! The NHS is so shocking they suggest people pay for their assessment and treatment privately!!!

My wife, Received wonderful care from all the team at Sandpiper Ward who did a great job. Thank you my children and I can not express our gratitude. It is very enlightening to see that people care and give so much of themselves to people who are ill but recover from the high care and love exhibited by the team . Well done to you all and keep it up

This hospital although has some incredible members of staff who are very good at what they do , and providing support to not only the patient but also to family members however I do feel that there is a lack of enthusiasm to provide the best care within some staff members , the communication between the staff and family members on a whole is poor and could be greatly improved , also knowlege of aftercare , and other crisis response really needs improving as most staff are unable to provide details of organisation and charities which can help family members once they have left the facilities as part of discharge Although I understand that mental health is one of the more difficult areas to be in , I do feel that they could greatly improve in their duty of care to each patient and their families but the simplest of things such as listening to concerns of family members , consulting family in patients care , giving better time scales on patients care and not giving family Hours notice as to the patients coming home
