Review of Ambulatory Care Unit - 0301 written by a patient
9th July 2019

I was very impressed by the care received by the Out of Hours GP, and also Sam in A & E triage. Subsequently the DVT nurse, Welmita, went out of her way to help expedite my appointment and was outstanding in all respects of my time in ACU. Much appreciated. One downside was the patient toilet in the Vascular Lab area on 3rd floor, which was disgusting.

Review of Fracture Clinic - Watford General Hospital written by a patient
6th February 2019

I received excellent care from all the staff I encountered at Watford General Hospital. The wait in A and E was lengthy but it was busy that night. I was on more than one ward while waiting for the operation (fractured ankle) and very impressed by the professionalism of the doctors, nurses and auxiliaries. I am now attending physiotherapy sessions at Abbots Langley and progressing well. Please thank everyone who has been involved in my care - you have made a difficult time in my life so much easier.

Review of Accident & Emergency - 0236 written by a patient

The nurse who saw me before the doctor was really rude, I felt intimidated and not comfortable talking to her. When I wanted to tell about my previous visit at A&E she was not interested and kept asking why I visited A&E today. I found her attitude very upsetting, I would rather suffer at home than being exposed to such a treatment. I have been paying my taxes for over 20 years, very rarely used NHS, either doctors or hospitals and really didn’t expect that. I regretted my coming to the hospital.

Review of Postnatal Community - 0598 written by a patient
22nd January 2019

Charlotte Eastwood was sympathetic and kind before and after I gave birth. She encouraged me in breastfeeding and had useful advice in answer to all my questions. She made me feel like I was doing well and gave me confidence and I was sad to be signed off from her care!

Suffering from a sudden heart block, &taken to Watford General Hospital, within 25 minutes I was being examined and monitored. This was the Sunday before Xmas. After being allocated a bed, various doctors visited me throughout the night every hour. At 10.30 the day (Christmas Eve) following, I was taken to the operating theatre to have a pacemaker implanted. And at 5.30 I was allowed to go home with my family. The nurses were fantastic, some were working a 12 hour shift, but very polite and helpful. At one point prior to being put into the ward, they rang Hammersmith Hospital In order to transfer me there but they did not have a bed. Thankfully, Watford General Staff decided to keep me. Enjoyed Christmas Day with my wonderful family. At 90 years of age this has been a very wonderful Christmas and I cannot thank them all enough. They really really deserve more appreciation and a brand new hospital.Best wishes to them all. Thank you.

I was admitted to Watford Hospital for an operation in September. I was there for 4 days in total but I was unable to eat anything. I have a dairy allergy but unfortunately, the food arrive from a company called Mitie and their menus do not include lists on ingredience or allergens. I found this out the hard way having eaten soup for lunch and then being very sick afterwards. Having looked at the packaging in the evening ( as I had ordered the same thing for dinner), it showed that the soup contained milk. During my time in hospital, I ate 2 single serving packets of crackers and 2 mandarins. I explained the situation to the nurses but there wasn't much they could do. I wasn't able to contact Mitie either but they are playing a very dangerous game. Granted, everyone is in hospital and so will receive immediate care should anyone suffer an allergic reaction but given that the doctors and nurses are over worked, the ability to make an informed decision about what you consume should not be too much to ask.

I attended A and E at short notice. Although the waiting time was forecast at 2-3 hrs, I started being seen after 1 hr. Staff were courteous and very efficient. Got the impression of being well-staffed even if space to work at a premium. After thorough examination moved to AAU for more tests and overnight stay. Treated very well and efficiently. Nurses/Dr./ consultant all very professional and timely.
