Review of X-Ray - Watford - 0669

The team were very welcoming and kept me at ease the whole time. We had a chat and I felt informed about the whole procedure. I was really happy with the team and how I was treated.

Suggested improvements
Running a bit late, I could have been updated on how long the wait was going to be. But it wasn't that long.

I was kept informed of my appointment. Due to a lack of beds, my operation was likely to be postponed however I got the call in the afternoon and within the hour I was in the operating theatre. Everyone I encountered was helpful and friendly. The operation went great. It was surprisingly quick. The aftercare was very comforting starting with a cup of tea and sandwich. I was discharged the next day. The nurses checked in on me regularly. I honestly couldn't have asked for more. Great experience overall.

I was sent to A&E by my GP as an emergency. My wife brought me and walking with great difficulty from the car park two very kind workers got a porter for me who then took me to A&E. The receptionist was very efficient and asked the triage nurse to take my stats and then immediately took me to a cubicle. The staff although extremely busy were very attentive and expediently did all the tests required. I was then admitted to Elizabeth ward. The staff there were very kind, attentive and professional. I then had surgery and was moved to ICU. Again the staff was extremely kind attentive and professional. I then moved to Flounden B ward where the staff looked after me extremely well. They were friendly, attentive and professional. Throughout this whole experience I thought the care I received was excellent. Even the food which is often criticised was very good. I have nothing but praise and admiration for the work of everyone I met. I was discharged on 28 June 2022 and am making a very good recovery at home. My thanks to everyone. Michael Parker

I recently spent a week in Watford General following an appendicectomy. The staff on the Victoria ward were all amazing and I felt really well looked after. My partner and I could not have been more grateful. Only criticism was the heat on the ward but the temperature this week has been 27-31 degrees and I appreciate there’s nothing the staff can do about the building.

I spent a week on Flaunden Ward for bowel cancer surgery. I was treated with respect at all times by the superb team on the ward, and well looked after. My Recovery Nurse Specialist was Laura and she was nothing short of brilliant. I am well on the road to recovery and having nothing but praise for all the people I came in contact with, who looked after me so well. Thank you all. Denis Cook

Overall I experienced a good level of care whilst recovering from Surgery. The nurses from the Enhanced recovery team (Laura) were superb and I cannot fault the level of care that they provided. The level Of care overnight was not as good, I believe due to staff shortages. It was hard to get assistance after 7pm and often it took longer than acceptable to get pain relief or help with any issues (e.g issues with catheter).

As soon as I arrived at the hospital dermatology department for my appointment, they told me that an interpreter had been booked in for me by the doctor, even though I did not ask for one and did not need one. I was quite shocked, as I have been living in the UK for so many years now and this is the first time that this has happened to me. I believe that the fact that I am not originally English gave them the right to assume that I did not have any knowledge of the English language and that I required an interpreter during my visit. I would also like to point out that I did actually graduated in Interpreting and Translation myself in my home country and I honestly find such behaviour from the hospital staff quite concerning and offensive. The doctor who visited me was also incredibly rude and patronising; when I refused to take off my clothes as she asked me, as I only wanted some of my body parts to be examined during the visit, she kept making nasty remarks and wasn't even paying any attention to what I was saying. In the end the doctor told me I was "free to escape" (using these exact words), which I found totally inappropriate. After this bad experience, I genuinely hope I will never come across that doctor again.
