Overall my experience has been quite negative. My main reason feel indifferent about this place is because there are several members of staff who do listen, and seem to care for us. However, there is a large number of staff that seem to lack the correct level of understanding which leads to a number of appalling events a day. Staff should be briefed EVERY shift of the expectations, such as this being a non contact ward, and it not being the patients being defiant/ unreasonable/argumentative but rather their disorders. Patience is key, which is often not considered (in the case of a lot of agency staff)

Making sure that staff are briefed. Highlighting the Pit Alarm as an EMERGENCY alarm. Patience. And remembering that a SMILE goes a long way.

Sometimes the ward leaves people at a critical point of a crisis. Eg ligatures and saying they’ll untie it soon.

Struggled settling in at first and felt like communication was lacking. However, now more settled I find staff very kind, and mostly understanding of a very complex illness.

Initially more support on admission as it was an extremely stressful period and I didn’t want to be in hospital. I felt communication with the MDT was lacking initially and introductions as had to wait till my CTM, however when you’re distressed and admitted on Tuesday that can feel a long time to wait.
