Having not required medical treatment for several decades now it is required and thei trust and its staff have been very professional and caring.
No care or concerns for my deteriating health.
If this hospital can not cope with the patients referred they should be open and tell you. A a patient I am on never ending waiting lists with consultants who are not even there.
Following an accident on the 7th July 2025 I was initially seen by ambulance crew Harry & Max. I can't thank you both enough. So kind, so helpful and every word and action was and remains so much appreciated.
Whilst I don't know the names of staff who treated/looked after me prior to my admission to F4 Orthopaedics Ward I thank them so much, truly wonderful people.
I remained on F4 for almost three weeks. Without exception the staff and the care I was offered, and given was exemplary. The ward was immaculate, staff clearly took pride in their work. Chrissy serving food and drinks never failed to make me smile, a lovely person.
It would be wrong of me to single out individual members of nursing/admin. staff as based upon my experience I have never come across a team of people who worked so harmoniously, (I was a Social Worker for 35 years), I sadly witnessed some patients treating nursing staff in an appalling manner, the staff responded professionally. Consultants and doctors visited daily, again what a group of wonderful people. Mr Farghaly performed my first surgery Mr Naqvi the second. I thank them both.
To whoever it concerns F4 Orthopaedic Ward is exceptional, the hospital should feel very proud to have such a ward staffed by such wonderful people.
I was transferred to F3 Cardio Ward for 2 days prior to discharge. I was put in a single room that looked quite untidy. The very large resin picture of blurred daisy's in a field does nothing to make one feel better and probably should be removed! The senior member of staff introduced himself when I was admitted to the ward but others I saw did not mention their names apart from Katie Day who was so kind and helpful.
Apart from Jacinda introduced herself on my second day as being new, and Masie who was working a health care shift staff seemed to lack awareness, no introductions, some staff very loud during their conversations with one another, others loud just going about their duties. Perhaps for my two day stay I'm being harsh, I don't mean to be but that was my experience.
I was repatriated to North Devon on Saturday 26th July 2025 . I was transferred by Medisec Ambulance Service. I am not sure what the surface of the stretcher was made of, but whatever it was how that company can expect anyone to lay on such a surface for almost 4 hours should be ashamed of themselves. The harness restraints were clipped in the middle with a heavy clasp which rested on your chest. The staff used the sheet from the hospital to cover the stretcher which provided no extra comfort at all. The blanket, again that the hospital gave me was folded and used to stop my foot banging on the stretcher (I had ankle surgery). I am sure this company charges the NHS an extortionate amount to transfer patients quite simply, shame on you.
I can only speak for the Opthalmology Dept., but I think we are very fortunate to have this superb eye facility in this part of Hampshire. I have had first class care over the years I have been a patient.
In all the years I have been a patient on and off I never met such lovely, friendly, helpful staff throughout every department.
All I would criticise is the fact that the hospital allows patients to walk to the main entrance for a cigarette.
If they are well enough to do that then they shouldn't be using up a essential bed.
I was at Southampton for 2 months last year and now go back every 3 months for reviews and after care, I can’t thank enough every single member of staff for my exemplary care

My experience at Southampton has always been very good.
I suggested that a plan pinned on the patients bed would be a good idea... when I was in SGH in Cardio for my heart bypass it was often a frightening time - when I worked in LNFH in MIU (reception) and on MAU (ward clerk) on my doubke shifts I had become confident that I understood the system, the staff and the departments... how wrong was I... after one experience I remember I started to panic - thought I might just be one person to disappear - my notes written in desperation read points like - family I DO NOT want to die... where are you and once I was found trying to escape on the fire exit stairs... so no, not all was rosy but the overall I praise the professional excellent specialist. My last procedure (AAA Vasco procedure was excellent) I was walked in to the theatre, the anaethesist was great and te procedure so good that I was allowed to go home again after less than 24 hrs. THANK YOU again SGH - so yes, the heating in the ward may be on full and the fans on for cooling (at the same time!!) and the nurses chatting may have left me desperate for a quiet night it was a small price overall. When one nurse offered me a drink at approx 4am she said she was disturbed because everytime she looked at me I woud oen my eyes and look back... the coffee was good though and I managed to sleep for a while. I have a couple of other memories but looking at the bigger picture I must say that I am very happy with the NHS and extremely happy to live close enough to go to SGH. Thanks
Saw Dr Jefferson Loveday today, was treated by the nurse and the consultant so professionally and with great care and compassion. Thank you.
Absolutely appalling hospital. 9 hour wait on a trolley in a and e. No pillow just a blanket. An hour and a half to be triaged then wasn't seen by anyone for 5 hours! Was dehydrated and in pain. Blood test was done, canula put in, so expected fluids and pain relief but the told nothing would be done until the bloods came back! 2hours later fluids and....paracetamol. Treatment didn't improve on amu. Nurses too busy and just didn't seem to care. Promised to get you something (and I'm including medication here) and you never saw them again. Lady in the bed next to me was written up by the doctor for a nebuliser at 4pm. At 10pm she couldn't wait any longer and kicked off. As I was leaving she was just getting it.
For me discharge was very sudden. Told I may be going home the next day then totally out of the blue at 10.30pm at night when everyone was settled for the night, I was discharged. Lucky for me my husband hadn't gone to bed so could pick me up.
I'm sure some people are happy with this hospital but I will never return. When your doctor sends you to hospital because you are severely ill you expect a reasonable amount of care and treatment. If that is what you expect
don't go to uhs
