Review of Ward 1 UHND
8th November 2023

As the patient from 2020 made their review, you were lucky.2023 was worse the patients an awful lot of elderly woman had cries for help ignored I feared for my life drugs protocols weren't followed, I had type 2 narcotics in my possession The NHS protocol says they should be locked on a safe place. Despite protestations they forced oramorph down my throat. Ignoring my pleas that I had a bad reaction to oramorph my own opiates were in plain site and I explained, That was what I was suppose to be given. Some of my opiates went "missing" I lost my wallet twice the first time two nice paramedics found it. The second time it was stolen my credit card numbers passed on to someone in Canterbury only some moron jumped the gun pretending to be fraud line saying £1400 had been stolen my wallet had other cards and a beaded crucifix with a sentiment on it, was one off and given by my late wife it meant a lot to me. She suffered of curable lung cancer, through prevarication laziness ignorance even MDT forms were altered. 30 and 62 day NHS charter pledges went without treatment. She died in my arms one week over one year after diagnosis. And the truth has no defence against liars. My phone was taken off me, it was tampered with so I could call friends The casing was broken. It took days to get it working but it's still not right. It says above my review please help others get great care by sharing your views. Here we go some doctors talk to you and treat you like something they stepped in, a nasty attitude would be an understatement to end all understatements and many doctors leave the door open so the rest of the waiting patients can hear the nastiness. Jaques should make surprise visits, I'm sure she would be impressed (not) I wouldn't talk to a dog the way some doctors to patients. Many UHND doctors I'd give five stars they actually show they care they talk to you. The others who rarely look you in they eye would not last five minutes if they worked for me

Review of Ward 1 UHND written by a patient
2nd September 2020

I was admitted with a life long illness which is also a rare condition and because of this i was totally ignored by the carers on the ward. I am still able to personal self care i.e bathroom wash and dress and because of this carers totally ignored me my whole stay on this ward, they didn't ask me if i was okay or even give me a simple hello when passing my bed, the more other patients rang the call bell or shouted they got the undivided attention everyday.I asked different nurses during my stay for the results of my daily bloods and not once did they come back and tell me, I witnessed unsafe practices carried out by carers, a extra large gent patient i.e hoisting a patient on their own he was screaming in pain as she did this.I witnesses patients that could clearly not feed themselves, never assisted to east or assisted to take a drink of water, these carers need more training or need supervising during care. I saw the same gent drag lifted up the bed by two carers instead of using a slide sheet this procedure can cause burns and sores.

Suggested improvements
Make sure you ask every patient if they are okay and involve them in their care.Get the carers and nurses trained to ensure the standard of care is acceptable and safe.Carers should be taught manners and treat all patients the same and not pick out favorite patients.

Review of Ward 12 written by a patient
16th March 2020

Having had a bad fall resulting in a broken right hip, I was taken to UHND by ambulance and then into hospital by a wonderful group of amusing and caring professionals. Then into triage and on through x-ray and CT before being admitted to Ward 12. The following morning I had my operation. At all times the care was superb. There are some wonderful people working there and that includes ALL staff. There are people working there from all over the world and it was a joy to see and hear so many nationalities even if some of the older patients sadly had some basic racist attitudes. The food was downright excellent! Even for a veggie like me. The Physio staff in particular were wonderful. I am now back home. Thank you Ward 12 for fixing me, keeping my spirits up and getting me out the other side!

Review of A & E North Durham written by a family member
10th December 2019

My elderly mother in law had an extremely bad fall this weekend and because the ambulance service was so busy we drove her to the accident department ourselves. When we got there there we were told that there was a 7 hour waiting list to see a Doctor and that there was 118 people waiting. Despite this she was triaged within 10 minutes and taken straight from there to the short stay area as it was likely she would need to stay in overnight. All staff treated her with great kindness and respect, reassuring her at every stage of her treatment from CT scan to the very painful dressing of her wounds where the skin had peeled back leaving raw flesh. Although it was abundantly obvious how much pressure A & E was under,I have nothing but praise for her treatment and the attitude of all staff from reception to discharge the following afternoon

I found my experience on this ward professional and very caring and nothing was to much trouble even though the ward was very busy. I think the nurses were very caring even though they were under pressure with a very busy ward. I feel what would help to improve the running of the ward his extra staff which would help . I do not feel you can use this has a negative because the staff on the ward were all so caring and professional.

Review of OP Endo - UHND written by a patient
15th February 2018

i felt really anxious before attending my appointment. I attended and was seen very promptly and given an initial medical check up by Kathleen who put me at ease and explained the procedure and what was involved. Matt carried out the procedure and again with Kathleen and a third member of staff I saw they were all interested in how I was and kept reassuring me as the procedure was carried out. Having the screen helped me relax and see what was going on, this definately help as well as the staff telling me what they were doing so I could anticipate the movement. the procedure was over very quickly and I was advised on the early indications immediately. in summary I was very impressed and would recommend this unit to family and friends.

Unable to obtain required medication to treat my condition/illness. I have attempted to resolve numerous times through GP, consultant and secretaries to no success. I am suffering continuing long term pain and a number of other symptoms along with it as a result. There is no light at the end of the tunnel and remain powerless as to its outcomes.
