Review of Henley Minor Injuries Unit
24th April 2024

The receptionist was nice, the doctor was nice, the x-Ray nurse was not gentle with my broken ankle and I had to hobble between departments, but once they gave me the air walking boot and crutches, I felt much better. I did have to google whether or not to keep it on overnight, but the fracture clinic called the day after next, to book my next x-Ray appointment for a possible cast.

Suggested improvements
Provided a wheelchair or crutches so I didn’t have to walk by myself with a broken ankle. Not manipulated my foot so roughly while trying get the best x-Ray pictures, shown me the image afterwards, and pointed out which bones were broken.

All staff were absolutely brilliant from the minute I arrived until I left. Obviously not feeling too good at the time, Malissa was so kind, caring and amazing in the way she deal with my wound. Can’t thank everyone enough.

Review of Henley GP Out of Hours Service
19th April 2024

My rang 111 and were directed to Townlands Hospital minor injuries as Brants Bridge were full. We had not visited there before. The hospital and parking were smart and efficient and reception was helpful. The waiting time was good for a Sunday evening at 7.45pm - we were the only people in the waiting room - and it was open until 9pm.

Suggested improvements
We saw Dee who was very nice but i do not think she was a registered nurse - she did not explain her job title. I glanced at the badge on the way out and saw Nurse Associate - i am not sure about what that role is - and when i have googled it it says band 4 role which is not a registered nurse. My daughter had cut her knee badly and she needed a stitch - she had hit a blood vessel and it was bleeding through the dressing. Dee was very nice and put my daughter at ease - but we feel Dee should have got a 2nd opinion - especially if she is not a trained nurse - and we believe my daughter should have had a stitch and not steri strips and a reinforced dressing. A week later the following weekend we ended up in Brants Bridge - where we had originally wanted to go - and my daughter still had an open wound congealed blood on it - and it was still an open cut and my daughter was feeling unwell. She had a temperature and the nurse - 30 years qualified nurse at BB - advise my daughter had an infection and that she would have given her gas and air and a stitch. My daughter is now on antibiotics 4 X a day and has had to miss 2 weeks of play and activity - her knee still looks very unsightly and we have been advised she will have a scar now - i do have phots if needed. Please can you respond to my query about what a nurse associate is - why my daughter did not have a 2nd opinion about her knee injury and why did not have a stitch as we had suggested we felt she needed this - thank you.

The time taken to be seen was good the practical work ie putting dressings was left to orderlies one put the dressing on to tight the nurse went away it’s a bit annoying

Suggested improvements
It’s annoying having to fill out a form every time you come in even if it’s a dressing change I was coming in every day and every day they made me fill a form

The only problem was at the end of the day there was not enough staff to finish my treatment so I had to go to the JR next day.

Waited 3 hrs due to an emergency. No patients were processed for over an hour. No accurate info on wait times just vague platitudes. No proper queueing system meaning having to waste hours instead of going and come back with a queue position. Xray dept shuts early at 4.30 so was almost a wasted afternoon. No triaging in place. Pretty disappointing experience.
