My 12 year old got appendicitis. It was a really trying week with the pain , lack of sleep and playing the waiting game. Whole covid rigmarole stinks too. The staff on the whole were so amazing. We really appreciated their expertise and kind nauture. Even when we were grumble bums.
Thank you so much! You do such an amazing job with such limited resources.
They did not allow me to wait in my wife's room during her surgery which is completely inexplicable and unacceptable for a private hethcare facility
Great
The Anaesthetist, Dr and various team members were considerate and caring during and after my operation.
My only issues were the following :
On arrival at 6:30am whilst sat in the waiting area I noticed strands of hair laying in and around the seating area.
.
My room room was very cold prior to prepping for my operation which made me feel a little uncomfortable but the staff later attended to switch on the heater to my room.
My dressing gown had to be changed three times as it was either too short, had holes, ripped cuffs, and generally worn.
Last point which left me a little uncomfortable was the fact that whilst using the lift heading down to theatre my lift was being shared amongst myself, Tool bags, and two building service contractors.
I would’ve preferred to wait and allow the engineers to use the lift rather than be sharing with them wearing workwear and heavy duty foot wear.
Final point I’d say is that the shower/ WC facilities look a little tired and outdated. I’m sure at some point this will be addressed.
I had surgery in late January and found the administration of my care appalling. I was give in writing the incorrect instructions about which covid test I needed to do and so my surgery was delayed two hours. I heard this outside my cubicle being discussed by staff who didn't keep me informed of what was happening.
The care from the nurses and surgeons was excellent but this was a stressfull experience because the administration of the charging and co-ordination with the healthcare provider was really poor.
The week before my procedure I had made sure the hospital knew what I needed to pay and what was being paid by my insurance but the afternoon before the hospital rang me to say I had to pay the hospital fees or they wouldn't be able to admit me.
This is not a helpful way to treat a patient about to have surgery.
That care was good the staff was very kind and helpful the doctors made feel relaxed before having my surgery
The Wellington was faultless and exceeded expectations.
Except area that should be improved is the checking in procedure for outpatient appointments, especially at the PMC. On one occasion there were long queues, and on a couple of visits the receptionist couldn’t find my details on the computer, and then asked me for date of birth, still no success, then my post code. Some patients may not like their details being overheard.
I appreciate Elstree has a fraction of the volume of patients, they know exactly who has appointment.
The reception desk will often be a new patient’s first impression of HCA. It may not be a great experience, which is a pity, as every other aspect is excellent.

Very friendly, professional and supportive staff. Clean environment
Everyone who looked after me during my week in hospital was extremely kind helpful and patient. The nurses, auxiliary staff and the kitchen staff all made me feel safe and completely at home! Would highly recommend this hospital.
