I was in the hospital last week for a disk replacement in my neck/spine. The specialist was fantastic as was the result of the operation. The nursing staff were appalling. Codeine was noted in my admission notes as making me sick. Twice a day, each day the nurses tried to give me codeine!! Each time I asked for a different medication I was accused of 'refusing' my medication. I continually asked to see the doctor. I was told he had 'left'. I came out of my room and he was standing in the corridor talking to the nurse who said he'd gone home. I left hospital with severe neck pain and morphine based medicine. I had to go to my own GP for the correct medication. I could list at least 10 other problems that occurred over three days. My cannula came out and two nurses had to call a third nurse to put it back - she was furious that neither of them knew how to reinsert it. There was fluid all over my blanket and sheets. It took them six hours to change my soaked bed, even though I asked three times. In the end I got out of bed and sat in a chair so they had no choice but to change my bed. I would never go back there under any circumstances. There isn't enough room here to list the catalogue of errors, suffice to say I left hospital a day early.

As an out patient, I required two procedures, on different days. One required 2 large doses of Moviprep, the other did not. I was told about the procedures verbally, nothing in writing. Which meant I had a whole miserable night of diahorrhea and vomiting. On my way in to the hospital, the nurse called to confirm my colonoscopy a few days hence!!! "No, I'm on my way in for it now, I've taken the Moviprep" She said she didn't know anything about it. On arrival it transpired I was to have a CT scan, but almost passed out during it, and was shivering uncontrollably. Was given tea and biscuits, which I threw up when I got home. I had 2 days to recover. Then had to take more Moviprep for the colonoscopy a few days later. I said to the nurse (the one who had called while I was on my way in) "I needn't have taken the Moviprep the first time then? "Yes Ma'am" "Why don't you put appointments in writing?" "Yes Ma'am" "I could have avoided much distress if you had done so" "Yes Ma'am" Eventually it dawned - she didn't give a monkey's, and whatever I said, she was going to reply "Yes Ma'am" The medical treatment was adequate, but the administrative support and staff communication is appalling. I've now seen an NHS Consultant, who explained my condition far better than the private man. People forget it's not just the fact that the NHS is free at point of use, it's the fact that the staff are more intelligent, responsible and communicative. And because verbal communication can be misunderstood or mis-remembered they write everything down for you. I will never use this hospital again

We have spent time in all 3 Wellington hospitals. Platinum Medical Centre - great, new, clean, efficient, friendly staff, very good food and care. Lots of regular nurses Wellington South - used the scanning facilities here and unfortunately acute admissions twice. It was fine. Not the place we wanted to spend too long and one shouldn't. Wellington North - lot of time spent here for surgery and post surgery on 2 occasions. Theatre staff and ITU fabulous. The rest of our time is mixed. Food not great at all. Nurses overnight are more often than not agency nurses so a lack of continuity of care when in for 3 weeks post op. Quality and experience far lower than the lucky times where we had permanent hard working nurses. Rooms getting tired. Heating only works some of the time. Nurses were freezing during January throughout the night. Very shocked by lack of information provided before leaving, to the point we were given none and should have been given very specific dietary advice. No surprise we ended back up in there a few weeks later. The experts are fabulous but the nursing care is pot luck.

A very nice hospital with very nice staff who were incredibly helpful and caring. I hate hospitals so the above was greatly appreciated.

I had an appalling experience at The Wellington South. Following major surgery and directly after a night in the High Dependency Unit, they put me in a room with construction work going on in the hospital right under my room. When I complained, they told me that they had no other rooms available, so I asked to speak to the Manager who then allocated me a new room. This would not have happened if I hadn't complained vehemently. I spent 2 nights on the ward and the staff were terrible. They had no idea of the type of surgery I had had and continually asked me if I wanted breakfast, lunch and dinner inspite of the fact that I had just had surgery where I had to be on liquids only. I was given incorrect information at my pre-assessment with the nurse which caused me a lot of stress and anxiety and the nurses on the ward continually forgot which medications they had given me and kept asking me to remind them. The nurses were disinterested, badly informed (some of them had no idea of why I was having pain in certain areas of my body), the liquid soup I was given was revolting and I could have been offered tea and coffee as an alternative, but this never happened. There was no handover between nurses and the drilling which had taken place in my first room recommenced in my new room on the 2nd day, but I was too poorly to complain by that point. As a private patient who paid a considerable amount of money for my surgery, I was disgusted with the standard of care at The Wellington South. I received better care on the NHS ! I wouldn't recommend this hospital or service to anyone. I will be writing an official letter of complaint to the Chief Executive Mr Neil Buckley and will be requesting a refund for my 2 nights stay.

The nurse staff special during the day don't speak or understand good English so is scary because they missurdestood what my husband say. The use endovenose jeringue and they come out in the middle of the night because they don't secure properly, was blood everywhere. In London is far more better private hospitals then this.

I have no fault with the hospital, although the praise really went to my doctor who transformed my life. I would have put up with less sparkling surroundings if the doctor is good. My insurer needs to realise that the doctors and nurses are what makes patients happy.

Get dietary information correct. Clean up the rooms looking tired and grubby. Better attitude from very busy staff. The specialist was fantastic and the operation and acute care also great.
