My teenage daughter was an inpatient at the Priory in Altrincham. She was being treated for Anorexia. This was her second inpatient stay as she had been at another hospital before. Dr Khanna and Dr Ryt have been fantastic in helping my daughter to restore a healthy weight. Her therapy sessions have also helped tremendously. The team have saved my daughters life. Thank you to all the staff, nurses and Doctors for your kindness and care and for getting my daughter weight restored and more able to cope with life psychologically.

Good clinical care for Anxiety and depression. However the hospital is poorly run. Mistyped letters and prescriptions to my G.P charging my insurance for 3 sessions instead of 2 as they forgot to charge for a session 18 months ago from my previous insurer. If you ring to give feedback or email, no one will ever get back to. Absolutely abysmal. People say the NHS is poorly run. This place is a shocker.

I received fast and effective care, I paid for outpatient treatment using savings but I feel a bit financially taken advantage of as the consultant tried to push for £100+ therapy and I am billed £120 for 15 minute consultations. During my first appointment with a consultant, I was diagnosed with a mental illness within 15 minutes. There was no formal assessment. The NHS ask about family history, social situations, physical health, they have an assessment they must follow. There wasn't any structure here. It made me question my diagnosis at first and I was told to purchase a book and read it and it came across as, read this and make your own diagnosis. After three consultations, I began coming to terms that I have a mental illness. The thing I like about my consultant is that he gave me options in terms of medication and we discussed side-effects. You don't get that with the NHS and it made me feel in control of my treatment. I don't have a CPN or a mental health practitioner I can go to in an emergency or for a review however most of my care is between the consultant at The Priory and my GP. I am satisfied because the NHS did nothing for me and now I am getting the right treatment for my mental health problem. I aimed to be better by Christmas and that has been made possible where as I would be waiting a long time to get treatment on the NHS. My consultant is well experienced and knows what he is doing. Although the price is steep for 15 minutes, it was savings well spent and I would advise anyone to do the same if they were in my situation.

My daughter stayed for 8 weeks, and during that time was able to self-harm, sessions turned her against her family. Her care was covered by a private health cover, however the priory received a letter from the health company stating that they will extend her in care for a further 2 weeks but any previous treatment suggested and not yet taken would be void. The priory failed to tell us or our daughter of this and continued with 10 outpatient care at £134 per session. It was only when the bill arrived that my daughter found out that she was to pay a massive bill over £1000. My daughter is a student, who has taken a year out due to her illness; she doesn’t work and has very little money, £15 from us, parents. She has made several attempts to make contact with the Priory to arrange a payment scheme with them; they have refused to acknowledge any of her letters, emails and calls. She has made 4 separate payments so far and keeps asking for them to contact her to sort this horrid mess out. The 4 payments have been made through my daughter savings and selling personal belongings via ebay. My daughter is now at rock bottom, her treatment, which was in the £000's is showing to be a waste of time. She trusted and believed that the priory really cared for her, now she sees them as like everyone else who has let her down in her life. The Priory just wants your money; they don’t care about the wellbeing of an individual. Even my daughters GP have tried to make contact several times and they are even ignoring their request for patient notes. As we see Mental Health issues come to the forefront of daily news, I ask myself why do institutes like the Priory not use this to raise their profile, the answer for me is that they are a false money making independent business who rely on the rich and famous to shroud them with money, and do not truly value patients in their care to support their wellbeing.
