I had a cataract removed and I had a worry about an arc type visual after surgery ..I contacted the hospital and could not gain access to cataract clinic staff but operator put me through to nurses on the ward.I spoke to two nurses Deborah and Heather who went beyond their call of duty to gain me further information by physically going to the cataract unit and gave me reassurance and that all was normal what I was experiencing I was so relieved ..I can continue with my normal pandemic life now Thank you Girls

I attended Sunderland eye infirmary on Saturday 8th August . The care I got off the doctor was reassuring , professional . However I’m not sure of names of admin staff but I think they need to go on a training course regards how they communicate with patients. The man that let me in the doors. Checked name and said follow me abruptly, the girl on desk glasses and ginger haired very moody and no eye contact. The phone was ringing for a good 15/20 mins in nurses station while she was gossiping with staff. Iam not a one to complain normally but as a carer I pick things up and people are vulnerable not knowing what there going in too . And nothing worse that people not making you feel at ease or welcome.

I visited for a small inflammation of my right and was seen by the nurse within 10 mins, she took some notes then checked and cleaned my eye which felt a whole lot better. Once that was done (approx 15 mins) I then waited 10 mins to be seen by the specialist who checked my details and then then checked both my eyes and gave me details of my treatment and antibiotic cream to be collected from the pharmacy. I am to go back for a check up next week, the whole process from entering the infirmary to leaving was under 1 hour from start to finish. I was very pleased with my treatment and cannot thank the staff at the Sunderland eye infirmary enough, once again thank you all.

Attended an appointment today with my husband who is post stroke and insulin dependent also high mobility needs . Sent between clininics A and B then they "lost " his eye X Ray photos which lead to more uneeded delays I had apologies but felt I had to fight to regain his rights and needs, don't really know how long he would have sat if I hadn't been in attendance . Disappointed and I shall certainly make sure I attend every other appointment with him . I realise the strain on healthcare I work within it but this I feel was totally below average we use the NHS a lot so know the score .

Had the need to visit Sunderland Eye Infirmary this morning, Friday 21/9/2018 was seen by a nurse within 10 minutes, then treated by medical staff. Cannot thank you all enought for your time , and dedication . Im not sure who recieves the money for parking at the hospital, But shurely we could all give a £5 pound towards the hospital up keep, on our first visit , for any treatment. We british people should be proud of the N H S .

Review of Accident & Emergency Department written by a patient

Visited Sunderland Eye Infirmary on 10 Jan 2018 as I woke up blind in my left eye with extreme pain in the eye area. I have never suffered anything like this before. After initial registration at 09:59 I was then seen by a nurse, an optician, a Senior Registrar and then a Consultant (Mr Bayliss) who postponed his departure to see me. I cannot fault the care and service I received from everyone concerned.

The staff were very kind and caring. I was sent by my GP to have my eyes checked. I was examined , diagnosed and given medication fairly quickly considering the department was busy.
