Some of the nurses who cared for me were very good but were rushed off their feet which sometime led to delays of my care. During the night staff were running around like headless chickens due to buzzers being pressed and not knowing who's bed the sound came from (we had a lot of elderly patients on our ward i think just needing spare beds and not necessarily cancer patients). Adopting a buzzer system at reception i.e. highlighting the buzzing patient, i think would help as i am sure i have seen this on another ward. The food was not pleasant even my toast was cold.

Review of Radiology - Bexley Wing (4270) written by a patient

My appointment was at 9:50 Sunday 26/1. There was no issue parking. My appointment was on time. I was nervous but all staff involved put me at my ease. I was extremely satisfied with my treatment, thank you.

I didn’t feel helped at all, I’ve been waiting over 8+hours to see the doctor and it’s now 8.33am and I’m still waiting now? Another person came in and they got seen straight away by the doctor! I’m not happy with the way I’ve been treated. I’m in absolute agony with the problem and All I have been given is paracetamol. I’ve been in pain for over 6 days! No nurse has come and told us a time scale, or done any bloods pressure etc, been waiting for a while! I’m not happy with the hospital It seems to me it’s like Less doctors more money More money less doctors The government is cutting money from hospitals/doctors so the doctors etc doesn’t wanna work all hours now less people are getting seen and the waiting hours and going up and up! Waiting hours to see the nurse is 3hours 19 minutes Waiting hours to see the doctor is 8hours 46 minutes The time wait is an absolute joke If drunk people and drug addicts didn’t take up the time for the doctors we wouldn’t be like we are!

The MRI Dept staff were courteous, friendly and caring. They kept me informed about my treatment and allayed any potential concerns about having the scan.

Review of MRI - Bexley Wing (4607) written by a patient

The Bexley Wing MRI is much nicer than the Lincoln Wing MRI department is. It's much nicer surroundings for the patient than the Lincoln Wing is and it is also very lonely and spooky where the MRI department is in the Lincoln Wing.

I have to say that the experience was unpleasant mainly because it was very noisy, claustrophobic but mainly too ling in my case as they did three scans in effect all at once. This lasted for one hour and 15 minutes. This was too long and I only just managed to hang on to the end. If I had to have any more I would request having shorter scans at separate times.

Review of J93 NSO In-Patients (0580) written by a family member
16th August 2019

My husband was admitted to this ward in distressing circumstances and was made comfortable physically and psychologically reassured throughout his stay. The staff were professional, friendly and caring which became even more apparent when he was moved to ward j84. The NHS and St James hospital need more wards like this and it makes me proud to be a former nurse.

Review of J84 Thoracic Surgery (0514) written by a family member
16th August 2019

From the day that my Husband was moved to this ward we were greeted with rudeness, disorganisation and all around ineptitude. From missing staff to forgetting to administer pain relief, this ward was inadequate in all aspects; bordering on neglectful. There seemed to be a complete lack of management strategy, and some of the younger care assistants were allowed to behave like school children. From a nurse who studied and worked at this hospital years ago, I think this ward is in need of a complete overhaul.

Hi I was admitted to ward j23 for a mastectomy, and stayed overnight. From the moment I stepped onto the ward the staff i.e nurses, healthcare, ward housekeepers doctors, consultant, were all absolutely brilliant. What would we do without surgeons & nurses etc doing what they do every day & in my eyes saving our lives. I have total love and respect for all the staff there, they are all Angels. Thank you.
