After a false start being lost in the system for 2 years and a complaint about the consultant who "lost me" my case was picked up by Sofia Makrydema who turned out to be a safe pair of hands. On the day of my op delays beyond her control as staff did not arrive on time so the theatre was not ready but the consultant was. The op was good, continuity of care and follow up from Sofia was good as expected. On the ward could hear the patient who had only just come on to the ward being firmly told to get up out of bed. Only when she got a word in edgeways and was able to say she'd only just arrived on the ward did the attitude become less aggressive. Food I'd had the night before was left on my table overnight and I had to ask for it to be removed next morning. I know the NHS are under pressure and nurses work extremely hard. Thanks to Sofiya and her team for great care and follow up.

The journey to my procedure started with an outpatient appointment with Professor Morgante. At last someone who really new about my condition and understood how debilitating it can be. Before long she had me on her waiting list and here I am having had it done, I was absolutely terrified of the surgery I was having. I was told to arrive the evening before, ready for the procedure next day. I was given a bed on Vernon ward, no where near where I was having the op.I had come a long way, was scared and felt I couldn’t go through with it. But the staff in Vernon treated me like royalty( I’m not). They had no idea why I was there except to be looked after until the next day. Whilst sitting feeling lost in such a big place, a lovely guy came over from neurology to go through my consent. He let me ask loads of questions, despite it being quite late and I immediately felt better. The next afternoon I went over to neurology for my procedure. There I was treated with kindness, respect and dignity, by Mr Pereira, his reg. Rebab ( who came to me every day, sometimes more often, to tell me exactly what was going to happen each day) and the whole team. Being told what is going on is essential otherwise one’s mind makes it up. Mr Periera, his reg and many staff I hadn’t met or remembered, must have done a very slick procedure, as I was not in theatre very long. The recovery nurses were so calm and soothing after the procedure, it was like a human hug. I am certain that this kind of care makes people better quicker. I had 2 GA’s in 6 days and both teams were phenomenal. Had I been aware of how great the care was going to be I would have less.afraid. Back in the wards, Mckissok and Kent, yet again I felt safe and relaxed by such great care. The night staff introduced themselves each evening at handover, as did the day staff. The day and night care was outstanding, mainly because the nurses seem to like their jobs as well as their patients. Seems a silly thing to say, but there was no gossiping staff ignoring ringing bells, no eye rolling and nothing was too much trouble. The food ladies used common sense and brought hot puds after I had eaten my meal. Sounds petty but it shows a level of care I haven’t received in other hospitals. I can’t name any one as EVERYONE seemed to care like I was family. However, special thanks to Mr P and all his team. I said thank you so many times before discharge, but I think I can fit one more in, so thank you to everyone in Neurology.

Wonderful staff, wonderful care. Food not so good but edible. I felt like a human being not just an occupier of a bed. Thank you St Georges and staff.

No care, feels like none of them want to be here. Don’t care for the patients, don’t communicate with them or other colleagues. They lie about what has been done when relatives call for updates. They need to improve in every aspect of their services.

I was in Richmond Ward. The staff are nasty, rude and very disrespectful. Nurses are just not what they used to be. They just hang around their computers like zombies with zero interaction or communication with the patients. It is disgusting how much downhill St George's has gone. They just don't care anymore and have a disgusting attitude. Worst experience I have ever had in any hospital. I walked out. Couldn't take it anymore. Before I didn't mind being in hospital, now I feel extremely uncomfortable because people have become so nasty and horrible. I hate them !!!!

The actual doctor that has seen me in the initial assessment area is nice and caring enough, the receptionists are unhelpful and sounds dismissive. Made my already an overwhelming day even worse.

I was treated on two separate occasions during Covid -19 restrictions on Vernon Ward for total knee replacements. I was in hospital for a total of almost six weeks. During those times the entire staff were working under intense pressure, not least implementing and maintaining a “Green status” ward environment. From Consultants to cleaners and trolley staff but especially the Nurses acted with huge professionalism, care, courtesy and calmness when dealing with a multi-disciplinary mix of patients who on occasions, were not easy to deal with and not always co-operative. Levels of cleaning standards were high from my advantage point despite criticism from supervising staff on one occasion which seemed to demoralise the staff concerned rather than being supportive. My only criticism and concern was the large number of patients using the two toilets closest to my bed area. At this point Vernon Ward was mixed with fluctuating ratios of male/female beds. Many had conditions requiring very frequent toilet trips. Despite frequent visits by staff to clean, I felt that there was an inadequate number available on the whole ward. In many post-op situations having men and women using the same facilities is not conducive to a quick recovery and infection control. Staff are not able to clean floors/seats etc after every patient. On the whole though the stay was made more pleasant by the wonderful staff.

As soon as I was referred to Mr Jayaram i felt totally looked after and had the best care I could ever have expected. He always makes me feel welcome and explains all the treatment and procedures with as much time as I need.
