They don't ensure severely mentally unwell people are safe. The patient if vulnerable is used and abused by other people.staff are indifferent, pyschiatrists accuse mentally ill patients of criminal acts. .The ward is a mixed ward, the male patients are often in female patients bedrooms.Because it's an acute ward, the hospital want you out as soon as possible. The place is corrupt from the health worker up to top management . As long as they look good, they really don't have empathy for patients. Often sending them home ,if they have one, which are dirty and unsafe. They say we can't look after them 24/7 ,what are the cons and social workers for ? Though to be fair, how can they help people, who should be in hospital

I am a relative/carer. We have a genetic disorder , and it can cause mental illness. The first time I had experience of St Georges hospital was Brocton Ward 2003. My eighteen year old relative has epilepsy and suddenly became out of touch with reality. A Dr Muris at the time wrote relative had personality disorder. Relative deteriated, and friends and family said to get relative out of there. After several months, relative had seizure, then referred to neuropyschiatry under another trust . When on Brocton, the staff were indifferent to familiys distress and basically ignored us not bothering with relatives epilepsy medication., Dr Muris would talk to me, and I think she gave in her notice and didnt practise again. Under other trust neuropyschiatry, it was no quick fix, many anti pyschotics were tried, yet it wasnt until relative was put on a drug for treatment resistant schizophrenia that relative got better, with anti convulsants for epilepsy. Relative was initially inpatient at Harplands hospital, neuro behavioural ward, then was an out patient with them, it was out of area ( the difference from St Georges hospital was fantastic, the staff on neuro ward at harplands were amazing and caring ), relatives consultant left nhs and we had problems, where in 2016 our relative was taken off treatment as she was discharged from neuropyschiatry, even though her eeg showed her epilepsy was active. with not been on medication , relative became grossly pyschotically unwell. Unfortunately relative was sent to Brocton ward and they said we are not putting her back on this treatment, we dont want to see the records from last twelve years, we have our own practise. they sent relative to cygnet, coventry, which cqc closed down because of patients deaths. Relative wasnt getting better, for a little while cygnet put relative back on the treatment that kept relative well, Then St Georges social worker, said take no notice of relative, she is not a responsible family. Cygnet took relative off her treatment, and she was injected with all drugs that in the past made her very unwell and didnt work. St Georges said relative couldnt see me, they tried to displace me as nearest relative, Ranjit Mal ,social worker had a lot of power and they just took notice of her. As nearest relative, I got a hearing for my relative, and one of the managers said for goodness sake, get this woman back on her treatment, she was on when under consultant at harplands hospital. St Georges after nine months were going to incarcerate relative with team of carers. they put her back on treatment but also on a lot of a drug that made her shake, they kept me away. I phoned safeguarding to say St Georges hospital hadnt let me see my relative for nine months and she was been emotionally and psychologicaly abused , been ridiculed and not allowed to see me. They discharged my relative then, and within a month she was off the drugs they gave her, which made relative much clearer and her cognition better, yet back on treatment from Harplands hospital . To sum up, the staff at St Georges dont like the patients, because of how patients are, they dont listen to you, ignore you and the patients and the hospital needs investigating. I am not the only one who feels like this, bad pyschiatrists are Dr Kumar and Dr Agell, Dr Grewell not much better. As for the nurses, Rachel Horton seemed to enjoy phoning me , saying you are never going to see your relative again, and dont bother trying to find out how she is as you wont get told. I think I am suffering from PTSD, as I already have physical health issues, this is eating me up. Thankfully , relative on right treatment is doing ok.initially just thankful relative ok, despite what she went through, as she cant remember much of it. This hospital is acute wards, they want a quick fix, if , they either take patient off everything,or go the other extreme, then if no joy, send them hundreds of miles away to private units, who are American. Absolute nightmare.St Georges hospital, and social workers who the pyschiatrists get information from, but not from the patients previous consultant for last twelve years. relative now under pyschiatry and neurology, unfortunately its not combined, but better than when relative under just St Georges hospital. My relative is never ever going back there, I could have got relative back into Harplands and they would have put her back on treatment straight away. St Georges hospital stripped her of her dignity and good reputation, Harplands never did that, they said she has an illness of the brain, on the right treatment she will be fine, and she is.

During my 3 week stay I along with the other patients were left to our own devices. Nurses sat in the office all day with the door shut and most health care staff sat together in a corner chatting. Most staff Diddnt even attempt to engage with patients or talk to them. There was no opportunity to discuss how you were feeling and upon asking to speak to staff I was repeatedly told "later", that later never came. I Diddnt even know who my named nurse was untill 3 days before I left, thwy only made themselves clear then because they were required to discuss my discharge with me. The ward rules state weekly meetings with your named nurse, that Diddnt happen for any patients. The worst part was the consultant, Dr Agell. There truly is no way of describing this man, it wasnt juat that he lacked compassion, he completely lacked emotion! You were never in a meeting with him for longer than 3minutes,he wanted you in and out as quickly as possible with no care for how you felt. He did not listen to patients, repeatedly stated he knew better despite having met patients for no longer than 10 minutes across their whole stay. And he would take patients off medication with no warning and non conversation, medication that was helping, leaving patients to go into complete crisis. I have since found out from a consultant psychiatrist In the community that he is famous for doing this and has a reputation for his lack of care. I would not reccomend him if he was the last consultant on earth. This unit is simply a place they put you in, do nothing and then discharge you a week later. The only members of staff who made any effort to care and help were the assistant psychologists who sadly only came for half an hour every few days, the occupational therapist and a couple of nurses.
