As an N.H.S. outpatient due to have cataract removal , the consultant Mr Porooshani failed to treat me with any respect as a person and as an patient . I found him to be hostile ; arrogant and uncommunicative in his attitude . After reminding me this was a private hospital and I was an NHS patient , the initial operation in removing the cataract on one of my eyes were disappointing and the follow up and the total lack communication I experienced forced me to cancell further operating procedures due to my lack of trust in the consultant .

I attended for day surgery as a NHS patient and found the whole experience caring and professional. Very pleased with my treatment and care. Only tiny niggle was that having had an operation that put my dominant arm "out of order" and in a sling, I was left to work out how to get butter and jam out of tiny sealed packets and on to my toast, had to use teeth and fingers! But I'm sure if had thought to ring the buzzer someone would have come to do it for me.

My husband has had several day stays at Springfield over the years. The nursing staff and consultants have all been excellent. Whilst my husband, as a private patient, has his meals free as the Insured, I, as his wife, have had lovely meals which we're quite happy to pay for. He was in on Tuesday for a general anaesthetic for a hip problem. We both ordered up lunch - his was very nice, but mine was appalling. I ordered up a cheese omelette with chips. The omelette was like rubber and the chips, although I had a salt and pepper pot on the tray, was absolutely coated in salt. Even my husband who is a real salt person, said they made his mouth all dry and it was too much. The kitchen did offer me another meal without the salt on the chips, which I thanked them for but declined, then they offered me a sandwich, but I wasn't hungry then. Apparently, that is what they do - salt the patients food. No restaurant ever does that. You have the salt and pepper to put on if you want it, some people don't and some only want a pinch of salt. I know people who don't take salt at all because we're all being told how bad it is for us. I fail to understand how a hospital kitchen can salt or pepper a patient's food, actually on their plate, for them. Perhaps you could look into this matter and tell the kitchen to let the patient decide for themselves. This is my only complaint and has probably never occurred before as I always have a sandwich.

I attended as a NHS patient and cannot speak highly enough at the level of service and attention I received. No stone was left unturned in order to help me, I saw 3 separate consultants and attended physiotherapy. The hospital was always very clean, appointments ran to time and the staff were friendly, professional and helpful. All hospitals should be like this.
