I Have been treated here a number of times as an NHS patient, and in recent years as a private patient. These particular visits I feel I was treated with the kind of respect and dignity you might expect - even as an NHS patient, with four procedures being particularly traumatic for me, but the care shown made up for the discomfort experienced from the procedures. However, I recently went in again as a private patient to have a very uncomfortable procedure, The room I was initially shown to was very pleasant, basic, but very pleasant, After a few minutes of settling in i was told i had been shown to the wrong room, and after they had my room made ready I would have to move, no problem I think, but when I was shown to what was clearly a very hastily prepared and shabby room I was slightly shocked!, grubby walls and plaster missing from around the window frame, no remote for the TV as I found out later, (would have been very useful, waiting for nobody to come and check on the patient!!), however, the surgeon and his team were very excellent in every way, so I have no difficulty in praising those guys. The problem came after the procedure, taken back to the room, and the lady that escorted me back let the staff know in the nearby nurse's office, then nothing!, for best part of two hours, no fluids, no check on the patient (from anybody), only two hours later did one of the catering staff ask if I wanted any water, then approx. an hour to an hour and a half after that (So three hours then) did I see a member of the nursing team who asked if I would like something to eat, and then I had to ask for a cup of tea!! the nurse did look expectantly at the dining trolley expecting to see something there I think, the look on her face was a picture when she saw nothing, all I got was two sandwiches (two slices of bread) Oh! and a fruit salad! I couldn't get out of bed because the sides had been put up and I couldn't see how to release them, and I hadn't been given the nurse call button, which was still on it's wall bracket behind the bed. so I couldn't call them, the door was open, but I didn't think I should have to resort to calling out to get attention, fortunately I had nothing to drink since the night before so I didn't need the loo, good job I think. Heaven knows how much this bill will come to, but I can only think only the procedure cost would be worth whatever they are charging. Very nice after the refurb, they must have run out of money for anything else. I actually don't like complaining, but knowing this will have been an expensive visit, overall, the whole pre and post procedure thing makes me quite angry, and disrespected. Filled in the Spire hospital review very kindly sent to my phone, unfortunately this was obviously very negative and ticked the box to get someone from Spire to ring - Nothing!!! Sums it all up I think.
