This was my first stay in hospital for over 50 years and I was not altogether sure what to expect. In the event I was very pleasantly surprised. Despite the pressures under which they were working all the nurses and staff in Gate 32B were exceedingly friendly and helpful, even when my cannula became disconnected in the night and my bedding and nightclothes became covered in blood! I had expected the food to be rather like school dinners (fondly remembered of old!) but it was unexpectedly good. The housekeeper even made special provision for me when I had to miss my meal at the normal lunchtime owing to having an MRI scan at that time. I was very much put at my ease and would confidently recommend this hospital.

I spent 5 nights in Southmead after Neurology Surgery. I cannot rate the care I received too highly. The Staff, from my Consultant, Aneatheatist, Theatre Staff, ICU Satff, Nurses, HCA's, Cleaners, Porters were fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble, always a smiling face, a helping hand and a comforting chat. When the Covid situation bans visitors this means so much to patients. Southmead hospital, BE PROUD!! A heartfelt thanks

Southmead is a great place and very well organised from beginning to end we had plenty of information session before the operations so we knew what to expect .it was clean and nice bright rooms even a spell in a and e opened our eyes to the strict cleaning regime .parking was ok and very clear and well light and not too expensive Even plenty of places to grab a coffee and a snack. we never once felt we had any problems here so much nicer than the bri.

Well what a hospital! The standard of care was 5 star: being informed of the care offered, the risks of my procedure and the outcome expected were explained to me at my pace and in plain English. I had my own little “pod” which was great during Covid 19 times. My procedure was on time, all the staff made me feel so at ease my blood pressure started to drop to a normal reading, the doc actually doing most of the work told me everything that was going on whilst he was “fiddling around” in my head which again eased my concerns. Dr Joao Rosa (hope I have spelt this correctly) was quick to tell me what would happen after we met and when I should receive an update with recommendations for the next step. I felt in control of my own care and the staff listened to my questions, giving me choices at every step. The only criticism I could have is that the catering choice was awful. I was given a “cheese sandwich” for lunch but it needed great imagination to call it a cheese sandwich. It was literally two slices of fresh thin bread with a scraping of butter and a couple of slices of cheese. No tomato, no lettuce or cucumber! Not at all nutritional or tasty, I know budgets are tight but a little bit of salad inside would lessen the amount of cheese needed and so work out to be cheaper to provide and, oh so much more attractive and tasty! Grated cheese is a very economical way of using cheese inside a sandwich too, Overall I was impressed by all the staff, the speed I was offered the appointment, and the complete care I was provided with. Keep up the good work everyone, you are amazing.

Very easy to find your way to where you need to be. Very friendly and helpful staff working in difficult Covid-19 restrictions. Very modern, spacious and clean environment.

I would recommend the hospital to family and friends without hesitation as the staff on the wards I spent time on (7A (I think this was the ward I was on after my electoral surgery as it was a green ward), 33B & 34B) ranging from the domestics through to the the staff nurses and sisters were excellent and again couldn't recommend them enough . All staff that looked after me absolutely treated me with dignity, respect and involved me in decisions about me, the service provided was excellent and I am so grateful for all the things they have done for me The communication of this wards was tremendous and are a credit to their professions. The hospital was clean especially during the difficult conditions we find ourselves, yet alone hospital environments during this pandemic as it must be even more concerning for staff who work there as they are at risk at all times. The staff looked after me exceptionally well, whether it was the cleaners who clean the room or ward I was in, the support staff who delivered food, the healthcare assistants for taking away toilet bottles, making the bed and general help, the staff nurses who took excellent care of me along with all of these. Thank you to all the staff who looked after me from myself and my family, it will never be forgotten.
