I walked into the emergency department with my two young children following a car accident. My partner was asked to leave as she was not involved as such I was forced to look after two kids in a hospital, whilst in severe pain. I received dirty looks from all six nurses standing in the reception, who were busy sharing sweets and discussing their weekend plans rather than addressing the que of patients. Finally upon being admitted into a and e, I asked if we could wait in the over flow waiting room to keep the kids out of theway, which the nurses and doctors there agreed to. I then had to wait over four hours and two reminders to the receptionist, in severe pain to be even seen by the triage nurse. Only to be told that it was my fault, as I was sat in the wrong waiting room. Finally, my kids were discharged after being checked over. I then had to wait two hours for my CT scan result, because the doctor did not know which room I was in. It was only at half 12 (8 hours after getting into the a and e) that I was finally given pain relief which I asked for numerous times. It was a truly appalling experience and I would never recommend the hospital to anyone for any sort of care.

Suggested improvements
Provide care in a timely manner. Keep patients informed of what is going on with their care. Have doctors and nurses who actually respect their patients rather that criticising them for seeking help when no other options are available in the local area. Scrap the rules of not allowing a person to be accompanied into a and e. The experience of going there is already traumatic, not having any support is not helpful to anyone there. Actually be aware of where your patients are and communicate between one another about their care that you are there to provide.
