The new Victoria Wing is very impressive. In addition to prompt appointments with Dr Quinton the out patients staff are very friendly and helpful. Waiting times for having blood tests and receiving prescriptions are also kept to a minimum.

i have no complaints about the level of care i recieved during my stay, on the whole the staff were caring & professional-my main concern was during my night on the assesment ward, was the monitor i was hooked up to, apparently i "died" twice according to the machine, according to staff it did this quite often! & the time it took for staff to answer my "call button" during the night when a confused patient got up, ripped out his canular, thereby spraying blood all over on the ward & my bed. i had to calm him, point him in the direction of the toilet & waited what seemed forever for staff to arrive. not the best way to spend your first night in hospital, in a bed covered in someone elses blood! once staff eventually arrived, the problem was dealt with quickly. the pre op ward was lovely, the recovery ward was busy, the staff were great, but hampered by broken equipment, the blood pressure equip was unreliable, the one good unit was on castors that would wake the dead-you knew when the staff were about to check bloods as the trolley screached like a banshee. the door to the stores & the entrance to the ward were constantly crashing shut-meaning trying to sleep in the early hours was almost impossible. i was scheduled to stay in overnight, but due to complications i ended up staying over a week, i eventually persuaded the staff i would be better off at home where i could get a good nights sleep! oh and the food-i wouldnt feed it to my worst enemy-bland just doesnt cover it-thank god for visitors & Greggs

confidentiality is the big issue here (in fact with all of the newcastle foundation trust hospitals) I was diagnosed with HIV and attended here for treatment in was happy with the majority of the doctors treating me. I was angered after I had categorically stated that I didn't need "sexual partner tracing services" (I'm Married, there was only one partner for 18 years) plus I know people working within the separate unit that runs this tracing unit. They still did it and now my colleagues at work all know about it. i complained and now colleagues in other firms i work with no it after they employed an external law firm to 'handle' my complaint. Shambolic. Steer clear.

My long stay on Ward 16 was made so much easier to bare with the lovely friendly staff. The ward was immaculately clean and tidy. Visiting hours were not rigid. The meals were actually quite nice which was a massive improvement from last year. I can't think of one problem.

The ward seemed very well set out, organised and clean with the children able to play with toys to keep them occupied
