At first I must admit I was a little surprised about the whole admission process. The reason for saying this is that in the past you have registered at Reception then gone through to the Ward to wait to be called to Theatre and then return to the Ward post operatively. Not now apparently. The process is that you now register, wait in Reception, are then seen by a Nurse who does your pre operative questions and checks, who also explains what is going to happen, return to wait in Reception, then to be seen by the Anaesthesiologist who explains what is going to happen, then you are asked t wait in Reception again. Then eventually you are called through to patient change, which has the name suggests is where you change, then you are escorted to theatre. Next thing you know you are waking up in Recovery and then you are taken to the Post Operative Ward. I personally didn't have a problem with this new procedure as I found it more interesting to watch people coming and going rather than sitting "lonely" on a Ward waiting to be called to theatre. My only criticism would be that I wish I had known this was the new procedure before being admitted as a family member could have come with me and sat in the waiting area. I know the letter that says about the operation date says that a relative \ friend can wait but knowing that I would have been with them would have been helpful as my family member didn't fancy sitting their "on their" own after I had been admitted to the Ward. Overall I was generally pleased with my experience and do not have any additional comments.
