Attended the hospital this evening as my daughter had a injury to her finger and may not have been able to drive home. We arrived at the hospitals minor injuries dept at 10pm and even though the waiting room only had a handful of patients there I was not allowed to stay with her. I'm a disabled lady in my 50s and I've now been waiting outside in the cold. Just discovered that other patients have been allowed in with friends.

I am at a loss to suggest any improvements other than to criticise the chairs!

I was admitted on Thursday 18th November to have a Fundoplication operation to my stomach. I was instructed clearly where and how to enter the hospital and to arrive at ward D3. The information was accurate and I was well received and expected. I was shown to my bed which I believe was in B unit of ward 3D. I mention this so the people who dealt with me will know my appreciation. I would like to thank everyone who looked after me on that unit for the professional, friendly, caring and safe treatment that I received. They are all a credit to the healthcare profession. A special thank you to Charlotte from Birmingham for going the extra mile whilst carrying out all of my pre op checks, a pleasure to meet you. I would also like to thank the pre operation team for their exceptional attention. They were truly amazing and so reassuring for a first-time operation patient. Sorry I have no idea which theatre it was, but I hope you know who you are Finally a big thank you to all the team on PACU, for their relentless attention and care. Kelly, who was on the night shift and Kev and Dawn on the morning shift we had great banter - thank you. My recovery has been fast and problem free, a clear sign of a job well done. I will never be able to thank you enough for all that you did for me. John O

Due to the current times , the staff couldn’t do enough and work above and beyond their duties, I’m very grateful for the care they gave after my operation

The care and attention that I received at the Royal Gwent was second to none. Very quick to be seen and booked in to the Day Surgery Unit for a planned operation. Couldn't have asked for better in terms of pre-op consultations in the Gynaecology department as well as the wonderful support and treatment in the day unit. Really made you feel confident and comfortable with nothing being too much trouble. And all the staff on the way in took time to help with directions.

My mother was transferred to the Gwent at 5.30pm. I called at about 9pm to find out what ward she was on. The receptionist said she couldn’t tell me as she didn’t have access to any patient records and transferred me back to originating hospital. They said ask gwent. Phoned again, so put me through to random dept as they had access. Told she was not registered on system. No one can tell me where my mother is so unable to talk to anyone about her current situation.

I went for an out-patients appointment at the Eye hospital on Tues 12th Jan, was very disappointed with the doctors who were examining people (don't forget at a very short distance) only wore a mask and nothing else, no visor or gloves when they are touching your face. My future son in law works at a very known opticians and was very surprised when I told him because he wears full PPE and that's in an optician, surely doctors in a hospital should be in full PPE.

I have had two serious operations at the Gwent in the last 4 years, the second was because the first was unsuccessful and needed more invasive surgery. On both occasions I was told to change into the surgical gown, prior to the op, in the TOILET. Even though I complained about it the first time it happened again. The nurses on the ward could not be bothered to change the B.P. cuff to the right size and insisted on using one that was too small and literally knelt on it to stop it from coming off. I spent 5 days in I.C.U. and was criticised by the so called "care" nurse on the first day for pooing the bed after waiting for over 10 minutes for her to find a commode. I was even told by an off duty nurse before going in the first time that she would make sure I wouldnt come out alive. I could go on. Fortunately, not all the staff are as evil and as sick as the people in question, but they are the people who give the place a bad name. They are a disgrace to the medical profession and should be publicly named and shamed.
