I was transferred to the Royal Free from Barnet, as I had a really bad kidney infection. I was discharged after being there for a few days and I had Sepsis which was not treated and I was extremely ill. As I had an appointment at UCLH, Westmoreland Street for a scan, I was admitted immediately and transferred to The Tower under Mr Barod's instructions. This caused a delay in having my Kidney removed which had G2 cancer.
The best NHS hospital in N. London.
Nurse and reception experience was very mixed. Some provided incredibly attentive, empathetic best in class care. Others were terrible, unresponsive, lacked compassion and/or any urgency. A total mixed bag at The Royal Free and really changed from day-to-day!
I was very happy in total
First class
I have just undergone a kidney cancer operation and was very well looked after by attentive nursing and medical staff throughout my two night stay. Everything went well and my recovery was rapid both in the hospital and thereafter.
I was pleasantly suprised by the choice and quality of food, and again, helpful staff.
Great staff and looked after well. Nothing to complain.
I have been a patient of The Royal Free for a number of years, mainly of the Haemophilia Centre and the Urology Department, both of which have treated me with consideration and care. The Consultant Urological Surgeon, Mr. Singh, and the Clinical Nurse Specialists, Isabel Rooke and Majorie Espiritu, have supported me consistently and diligently; I felt I mattered to them.
Mr. Ellis, Consultant Urological Surgeon, referred me for Prostate Artery Embolisation after discussing all my options with me. Then Dr. Khalifa, Consultant Radiologist, and his team discussed the procedure in detail with me. They carried it out in a relaxed, competent manner that put me at ease and followed up on the outcome though they were not on duty. Specialist Sister Mina Karamshi, was central to my care. Best of all, PAE was a miraculous success.
I would like to commend the gi endoscopy department for the first class experience I received when having my endoscopy yesterday. It did look a bit grim being in the basement and could do with being decorated but as I walked through the door I was greeted by a someone in green scrubs who gave me a warm welcome and this put me at ease. I was very nervous and was reassured by the friendliness of the team who showed genuine compassion. I would like to thank Agnes who checked me in, Rani and Virginia who checked me out , the porter who's name I didn't get but is the fastest pusher in the hospital! and most of all, Dr Patch who's calming manner gave me the confidence to have the procedure without sedation and kept me calm throughout. I am very grateful to this team.
My constructive suggestion is that the receptionist although polite could have been more engaging.
The hospital is well set up for social distancing and I felt safe attending the Royal Free.
The only improvement would be that following my CT scan, no one discussed the results until I returned 2 months later to see the urologist.
