I found the nurses to be necessarily rude and confrontational. Some of them were undisguised thugs. And in one particularly unpleasant incident I was assaulted by two of them. The place operates more as a prison than a hospital I was held there and received very low quality care. I was held in conditions where it was too warm for me to sleep and I was given very little access too food. If you are not well enough to get out of bed at meal times you will go hungry. The doctors were high handed and pursued a drugs and shocks only approach to treatment. The side effects of drugs including very dangerous ones were ignored by doctors and nurses. On one occasion this almost lead to my death. The course of ECT that I received was badly botched. The drug handling was appalling and resulted in me struggling to get the medication that I was prescribed. When very serious medical errors where made by doctors they were swept under the carpet. One doctor in particular was very dishonest in covering up his incompetence and behaved very aggressively towards to me to try to intimidate me into silence.

The Royal Edinburgh Hospital's Care for the Elderly female ward is a disgrace. The level of care and overall attitude of the staff was shocking. The nurses, on the whole, were uneducated and more like prison officers than caring, compassionate health workers and the psychiatrists are bullying, egocentric idiots. The managers are almost worse as the rot always starts at the top. The Eden ward is so dysfunctional it is dangerous. Patients complain; patients' relatives complain but probably not formally. The level of bullying within wards from nurses and medics is astounding. It is a truly toxic place and shameful. Do not go near this place unless you really, really have to and even then my advice would be, don't do it! DREADFUL HOSPITAL.

A vision of Hell itself. People clearly off their heads, lousy catering, next to no staff interaction as they clearly preferred to lock themselves in their office or their staff room to avoid the patients. Is this really mental health care in the 21st Century?
