Treatment and staff where extremely good, the only negative thing was we was there for over 12 hours
Although the department was very busy I was seen quite quickly and although having to wait just over 10 hours after being told I was to be admitted to the hospital the nurses were very good.
No triage, just based on time of arrival. Was sent for a blood test which took 3 hours so I was automatically had a 3 hour wait as I was sent to the wrong A&E dept. Saw 2 doctors, 1st one diagnosed the issue (kidney stones) and wrote urgent CT Scan required, then saw a second doctor who proscribed painkillers, waited 4 hours for painkillers to be told it was another 5 hour wait to see a further Doctor who would be able to arrange for the CT scan, although it would be in 48 hours time.
My experience was absolutely shocking . I in receipt of chemotherapy and was admitted with a suspected infection . I advised that I had a medical alert card and should receive antibiotics immediately . Blood was not taken for two hours by which time if I had an infection I would have developed sepsis . Luckily I did not have an infection
I also presented with heart problems and advised that my Chemo drug was potentially cardio toxic . I literally begged the nurses to ask the doctor to seek advice from oncology to avoid heart damage and they refused . Again fortunately it was not the case . No blood test was made to check if I had a heart attack . I did not see a doctor for 14 hours ( when he arrived he was efficient and helpful and kind ). My experience of the most of the nurses was a complete lack of compassion and humanity ( to me and other patients in distress )
No attempt was made to isolate or protect me in my immune compromised position and for two days i was surrounded by people coughing and vomiting and was forced to share a public toilet exposing me to significant risk . If either of the two conditions I was suspected of having had materialised then frankly I would have died . Absolutely and completely shocking
Night shift told me I needed a procedure- in A&E for a total 15 hours, in at 7pm out at 10am next day. Day shift came in and sent me home and told me to come to an outpatient clinic the following week.
From those I met, covering the full remit of jobs such as porter, consultant, food and drink provision, security, everyone seemed very easily focussed on getting their patients comfortable and “mended”.
Although overworked and not able to stand still they were friendly and courteous thank you
I was there over three hours had bloods taken when partner asked what’s happening they couldn’t find my notes no apology no nothing from them the two nurses looking after everyone was rather short with people one nurse wanted to use a wheelchair for a patient so tried to kick someone that just came in to a&e out of there’s and the old lady told them she wasn’t giving the chair up as they were unable to walk if they needed the toilet etc they would be stuck the nurse was annoyed and walked off in the hump to come back 5mins later with another wherlchair so the nurse that needed it just couldn’t be bothered to go get one instead trying to force another patient out of the one they were using. I had to ask for my cannula to be romoved six times they just totally blanked me I ripped it out myself and threw it on there desk and left queens hospital are a joke rude staff three-four hours and not one person came to see me still have this issue it’s never gonna change as the staff are over worked and underpaid you pay peanuts your gonna get monkeys nhs service has no funding and to many immigrants are putting the nhs under.
I took my 92 year old father to emergency department and was there for 26 hours didn’t see a doctor to access him for 19 hours was told he had heart failure after the second blood test we was allowed home and told we would get a follow up call from cardiology.we are still waiting
