Exceptional service of care and attention given initially by the reception desk staff and then same from the attending Consultant and the administration staff members of Orthotics Clinic. All 100% patient focused

The service received from the physio team at Queens Hospital is exemplary. The reception team are always courteous, especially Cynthia who always has a smile on her face. My physiotherapist George is extremely kind and compassionate. He has a professional attitude to work, shows empathy and spends time to understand patient needs. I think every department needs to have staff like George who make you feel respected and valued rather than just being a 'number'. Having had very bad experiences in other departments at Queens this is a positive and welcoming experience.

Although the appointment was for 11.30 and I arrived at 11.15, I wasn't seen till mid-day. The photographer was professional, kind and considerate as were the staff handling arrivals / enquiries. The fact that there wasn't sufficient seating for the number of people waiting meant that some were asked to sit outside (where there were 8 seats). There was no explanation for the delay, just that Tuesdays were usually a mad day. Which, if the queue for the multi-storey car park was anything to go by, was an understatement! The queue reached back and past the traffic lights. Luckily I needed cat food, so parked outside Pets at Home as it was quicker and easier!

I gave these answers as my appointment was booked fof 3:45pm and was not seen until after 5pm. Communication was not great with the nurses as I waited an hour until I was told the consultant was running late as he is new and had no one assisting him. In the end another staff member asked another consultant if my daughter can be seen by him as my original consultant was still running late after 5pm.

Suggested improvements
Better communication with patients. Surely we could have been told on arrival that the consultant is running late today. I was only told this when I enquired that we are still waiting.

Overall I am satisfied with my treatment. Have had very good telephone consultation.

Suggested improvements
Unfortunately the pandemic has changed the way we see the consultant but with telephone consultations we can keep in touch.

Long gaps between being seen, knowing what was going on. Sent home with very little explanation as to what was wrong with me or what would happen next.

Suggested improvements
The sdec room was disgusting! Cramped, smelly, zero privacy at desk. Made it feel like a second class citizen! Saw only one cleaner during my 23 hour stay! Breakfast trolley did not come round

Review of Queen’s - Accident & Emergency

As much as I felt the care professionals (when you eventually got to see them) communicated well with me, they did not seem to communicate well with each other. It seemed that each person I saw ignored or overrode the previous person hence it was frustrating and my care/treatment seemed to be taking forever or going backwards. It was only when you got to see a consultant - presumably when all the results were in - that things progressed. These consultants were very good but you felt that time was of such a premium that it was a bit of a whirlwind.

Suggested improvements
If you are obviously feeling unwell then 28 hours on hard chairs in urgent and emergency care is not beneficial. After 28 hours I was offered a proper chair before being transferred to a ward. You need more staff, more beds and more comfortable chairs! The staff are too busy, have to do everything in a rush and are spread too thinly - this part of the system is hanging on by a thread.
