Excellent care and professionalism from doctors and nursing staff.
Waiting time quite lengthy but this is to be expected in A&E department. Also had to revisit hospital following day to have operation to remove abscess from lower back
My husband was very ill when he arrived at Queens Hospital. He was taken in to Majors and treatment began immediately. He was treated with compassion and kindness, so were myself and our son during a very traumatic situation.
Extremely efficient, polite and kind. A well run unit. Reception and staff alike.
I was left laying down for hours without any information, no updated pain killers. And I really felt like I wasn’t being taken care of. I came from another hospital and I was left sitting in a chair with a back and head injury for hours when I repeatedly explained that I felt like I needed to lay down for support. After asking for my head blocks to be put back into position as the tape had become unstuck and they was not supporting my head, I was told that it was fine and that they should be loose, then defying the whole objective of them. I asked to use the toilet as I felt uncomfortable using a bed pan in front of an entire waiting room I was denied. My partner enquired why and he was given the response of ‘ with how much she was making a fuss and complaining we can’t take the head blocks off’. I was made to feel like my feelings and pain was invalid and therefore felt uncared for by the staff
Left in a corridor overnight
I received excellent care, attention, support, compassion and understanding. Considering junior doctors were on strike I received excellent and prompt treatment. The ambulance team were also excellent and reassured me immensely and looked after me with great care.
My English is not good at all, they let at the beginning my son-in-law to be with me all the way within the Hospital. Them when I was left for the night in the Word they had nurses speaking my language and they explained and helped a lot. Thank you for you patience.
It was a good experience under the circumstances
All staff were very friendly and professional
I dont blame the staff at all in this, but the department is an absolute shambles, understaffed and under-resourced, there was people waiting for basic needs:
1) A 95-year old lady who had a suspected heart attack was left waiting for over 12 hours, even being physically sick in the waiting room and not one member of staff could/would even help. It was left to the other patients to help clean her up, get tissues and bowls etc
2) A man needed an IV drip for Pneumonia, and was told he just had to wait for a bed to become free for him to start this treatment, estimated wait 12 hours
3) At least 2 people had been advised that their scans had been "lost" and at least 3 people just walked out.
I was in the department for a total of 15 hours and when I enquired as to how long it will be until I see someone the answer was "Nobody knows", I am also diabetic and said that going this long without food is not good for my health to which the nurse replied "There's a vending machine there", suggesting that I have either chocolate or crisps, really?
I had 3 ECGs and when I enquired after 3 hours about the result, I was called in an asked to do another ECG, I assume the last one was lost as well.
When being discharged, the doctor called me in and apologised for not taking basic blood tests when I first came in, really?
Was left crying in pain as was repeatedly ignored in emergency care by staff when asking for pain relief. Had to repeatedly tell doctors my test results as they didn’t bother to communicate with each other or read my notes (they repeatedly said I cant have a kidney issue as I didn’t have a UTI, for me to then tell them I did and it showed in my urine test I had there). Left in emergency care for 30 hours in pain in a chair. When I finally got a bed they left me sat in the middle of a ward as they tried to get another patient out of my bed that was also in pain but hadn’t been given her meds to go home with yet (they wanted her to sit in pain downstairs waiting for her meds). Doctors did not communicate with me and found most of my issues out in my discharge letter (which they are not following up the fact that I have scaring and misshapen kidneys). Was told for two days I was having and ultrasound, only to be told by the next doctor they had no idea what I was talking about and that hadnt been put through but they will do it now (this happened three times). I went here because my IBD team are at queens and they are amazing, but the care me and every other patient in the emergency care and sky ward received was just disgusting and I would honestly never go there again whatever happened. King George's is so much better.
