I had an appointment on 27 December 2019 with Dr G. Thomas, in the Ambulatory Care section of the hospital. I was extremely impressed with the efficiency and helpfulness shown to me by all the staff I came into contact with. The nurse who went through the initial examination, ecg, blood tests, blood pressure etc was especially kind and helpful. Dr Thomas could not have been more helpful in explaining my brain scan and putting my mind at rest about the result. Unfortunately, the man ahead of me thought that he shouldn't have to wait even ten minutes to be seen - even then, the staff managed to calm him and eventually make him satisfied with his short wait. How the staff manage to stay polite is beyond me!

On the whole, I received good care form the majority of staff who work at the Q.E.Q.M hospital. However, I want to point out a problem that has occured a few times, and to different people [so it is not isolated]. A friend of mine was told that she would have to have a significant surgery and to go to speak to her doctor for the surgical procedure. She went to see her doctor who told her that the results were fine, no surgery was necessary at all. The report he received was from the same member of staff who has said that she required a significant surgery. I had a baby at the QEQM a few years ago, I was treated with contempt and ignored [which had consequences] simply because I was wearing a hijab. Then, just this month, I saw another specialist [cancer] and she refused to scan me, but diagnosed me as having cancer. However, I have not had a follow up appointment, so this makes me doubt that she had any right to say any such thing. I know many staff at the QEQM, they happen to be muslim and are sometimes subject to such snidy treamtent. What I would say is, being kind and courteous to a patient should be a given. [I am always polite and friendly, as I see myself in a position of being grateful, and my mother taught me that good manners are free, so use them liberally!] I am English, [as was my friend], but I often wonder... how must it feel for someone facing potentially life threatening, life ending diagnosis, when they are being treated in such an underhand and unprofessional manner? I now, doubt the diagnosis , and even doubt that I'll get to the truth. I do not want an operation I do not need, and I do not wish to be treated as 'angst' fodder for the average disenfranchised hospital worker. The vast majority of staff are excellent, but - these rotten apples, make me distrust the system. what to do?

I have been under regular treatment and care under a few specialists for more than 18 months, I have never felt unwelcome, been treated with indifference or impatience. Excellent care under sometimes extremely difficult work conditions [especially A&E!]

I hesitated three times when trying to find my way around the hospital. within seconds members of staff had noticed and actually took me to where I needed to be. EVERY SINGLE member of staff was unusually polite, sensitive and ahead of the game. I work in hospitals around the country including major teaching hospitals. This hospital was far and away the best on all counts

I accompanied my daughter and her husband while she was in labour. Her care was excellent on the midwife led unit and also on the labour ward. I would highly recommend the midwife and obstetrics team.

I attended the hospital on Sunday 21st January 2018, with severe chest and stomach pains, fearing that I had suffered another heart attack, having already been an inpatient the previous week with a "silent" heart attack. I was examined within minutes of arriving at the hospital and taken through to the observation unit where I stayed all day. Throughout the day I received constant attention including ECG, blood tests, etc. I was regularly visited by Doctor Richards, who kept me fully updated regarding my treatment. Luckily for me it wasn't another heart attack and I was released that same day at about 8.00pm. I felt safe and secure in the hospital due to the brilliant care of Doctor Richards and his nursing team. Well done Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Michael Barnbrook Patient Number 01702757

I have been in Q.E.Q.M hospital a few times in the past 2 years, this year I have had 2 Operations. I have only known great care from all members of staff. They are very polite, and show kindness and care. My favourite ward is Cheerful Sparrows..... a good ward in which to recover in. This August I was in for four weeks, I was looked after very well and the staff were there to help in my recovery nothing was to much trouble. The staff work very hard and long hours, I find they are very dedicated to their vocations. I highly recommend Queen Elizabeth the Queen mothers hospital.
