Review of Fast Access Chest Pain clinic written by a patient
18th December 2019

The clinic worked efficiently and did not leave me waiting very long. Reception staff were helpful and both members of the nursing staff interacted well with a good sense of humour and there was no feeling of being rushed. They were knowledgeable and took time to explain the details of the problem. I have no constructive suggestion to improve my care on this occasion Thank you for my care

Good attention. Signposting directions to ward could be better.

Taken into clinic room where a member to staff was eating her lunch to have basic weight & BP done. The member of staff continued her lunch while her colleague was assessing me - the clinic room smelt of her strawberry yoghurt. During the pre-op assessment the nurse was looking at and updating the incorrect patient record and had only realized this part way through the appointment. The nurse did not introduce themselves, made no facial contact at all and just stared at the computer the whole time, she would not have even known what colour my hair was, clearly lacked interest and exhibited bored, apathy and hates her job. I felt like my appointment was an inconvenience. As a face of the NHS - this nurse is clearly a candidate whom the papers love to beat the NHS with. Code 1562

Review of B7 written by a patient

I was told several times that I could go home if certain criteria were met but never informed what the criteria were. I asked several times to have a cannula removed from my hand as it wasn't being used and its location was preventing me from properly holding my baby and it was getting caught on everything, I was repeatedly told to speak to someone else about it. I also think it's stupid that your partner can't stay with you overnight at least the first night. I'm high risk for postnatal depression and had a somewhat traumatic birth, I could've really used the emotional support of my partner.

I can not fault the care I received. From the surgeon and theatre team, the ward staff, porters, to the ladies who served the meals and brought a welcome cup of tea I was treated with kindness, respect and compassion. Thank you QA.

My Mum, who is 92 broke her wrist and we attended A&E today. The staff were all amazing from the receptionists to the porters, ancillary staff to the nurses, doctors and consultants. My Mum was treated with the utmost respect and the care and attention she received was outstanding - which was amazing, given how busy they all were. We were kept informed of what was happening, explained clearly in terms we could understand. Special mention should be made of Ruth, a nurse that sorted everything (with a smile) and turned a bad day into a very positive experience. There’s a really great atmosphere in the hospital and a can do attitude. I’m not sure, on my experience what could be done to improve it.

The only concern regarded my discharge from hospital. maybe because it was at a weekend and the department that specialised in my operation were not available but the initial home care instruction was lacking. However a telephone call on the Monday morning put all back in perspective. Think maybe in similar casesto mine anyone being discharged with chest drains could be given a simple one page leaflet of do's and don'ts. Other than that all tratments were excellent, patient care excellent and follow up after 7 days was also excellent.
