The theatre team after my operation were perfect. Because my type of surgery is a tad ‘conveyor belt’, and I believe there are a lot of agency nurses, that type of care leaves a lot to be desired! An understanding of patients pain, ability and fears needs addressing! The regular nursing staff were lovely. I’m happy to talk to someone about a couple of incidents I wasn’t happy about if you wish to contact me.

I was treated at the Princess Royal to remove a polyp in a "difficult" location. The operation was done efficiently and with a relaxed approach that made me totally imune to any embarrassment. I was offered a full anaesthetic but preferred a local. If having an operation can ever be described as an enjoyable experience I would indeed say that it was in this case. The staff were all caring and attentive but light hearted and relaxed which was catching.

My first physiotherapist suggested I go into rehabilitation at a separate establishment before full discharge as I had had a total knee replacement operation and had not started attempting stairs, and my toilet is upstairs at home. The physiotherapist who came on the ward the next day totally ignored this and discharged me straight back home !! I was readmitted with low sodium levels and low white cell count and put into an "isolation ward" as they were worried I might catch an infection. Although my husband was asked to wear a mask, this had not been communicated to the nursing staff who did not take such precautions. Communication was non-existant as I had no idea why I was in this ward and at begun to worry I had contracted MRSA !!

Overall, the treatment I received at the hospital was good. The staff were friendly and helpful. I had one incident which left me feeling upset. I was not allowed out of bed because I had passed out during the night and they were keeping an eye on me which is a positive experience. The next day, a nurse came to take some blood and as I needed to go to the toilet, she got a bedpan for me, which are now disposable, and not made for comfort! The nurse said she would be back shortly......but didn't come back! About 45mins later I pressed the buzzer, no one came. Eventually I had to shout for help, then two doctors came running in to me. When they realised what the problem was they got a bit cross with me. They didn't realise that at that point, I had actually been sat on the bedpan for over an hour! My dignity was dented a tad. But, when I passed out during the first night in hospital, everyone who helped me were incredible and I couldn't praise them enough. The incident was dealt with in the way how I remember hospitals back in the 1960's.....with great care and concern

Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff during my stay. They all had time for me and most had a sense of humour. All of them surgeon, nurses, cleaners and even the person that brings you your food and drinks were excellent! A really big thank you to you all. It's a shame more hospitals are not like this one
