I gave birth in the maternity ward. Upon arrival, I was made to wait for more than twenty minutes on a very uncomfortable chair, even though I was in a lot of pain due to the contractions. When I got in the triage area, the midwife there took forever to give me pain medication despite me begging and screaming. She kept talking at the phone and she was very brusque and made me feel unsafe. Her manners made me feel really anxious. The midwife who looked after me during the birth was really nice, but I did feel that while I explicitly asked for my son to be given to me right away unnecessary procedures were undertaken before I could feed him. The person who came after I fed him treated me like a soldier. She was also very brusque and I felt like I was being ordered around to go have a shower etc. I was feeling very vulnerable and she made me feel even less so. On the ward, the rules about visitors and usage of the bathroom weren't really enforced, so it was hard to sleep due to all of the noise at all times, and more visitors than should have been there were just allowed in. I have regretted giving birth there and I do wonder whether my postnatal depression was at least in part started from the poor experience there. It's still hurtful to think of. I know two other people who gave birth here and they also found it a poor experience.

I was treated with great care and consideration at all levels during my stay. On arrival for surgery I was welcomed in a friendly and informative manner and was put at ease by members of the surgical team who saw me prior to surgery. Post surgery I was made very comfortable in the recovery room, well attended to and kept informed. Similarly in the ward, all members of the team - nurses, trainee nurses, health care assistants and the caterers were all friendly and helpful. The latter is much appreciated because I could see that many of the patients around me were very poorly and needed a lot of care and attention but despite these pressures they were there for me when I needed assistance and always with a friendly and considerate manner. A very big thank you to all concerned.

I cannot praise each and every member of the Ward B1 team too highly. From the start to the finish of my inpatient stay on the ward I was treated with dignity and respect by each and every nurse, doctor, and member of staff with whom I came into contact. I was kept fully informed about all clinical decisions and treatment plans and whenever I asked for more detailed explanations these were always given in clear and helpful terms so that even as a layperson I felt fully involved and included in the treatment at each stage. Every individual with whom I interacted whilst on the ward was friendly, helpful, courteous, welcoming and, most importantly, reassuring whilst still being open and honest about the potential challenges I was facing. I was privileged to receive such a consistently high and professional level of care and I felt humbled by the courage and dedication of each member of the ward team. I have the utmost sympathy for anyone who finds themselves on Ward B1 due to Covid but I can confidently promise them that they could not be in safer hands. An outstanding group of compassionate human beings.

I would like to mention Orthopedics, Mr Carmichael, who done surgery on both my bunions, 2018 and 2019. Having just been for my last check up, I am now bunion free, pain free, and surgery was a success. Thank you to all involved.

Please pass on our thanks to Robyn (nurse practitioner) and the team in the children’s part of A&E. My 2 year old son was seen for a cut finger afternoon of Friday 21st Aug which was distressing for him (and myself!). We were seen relatively quickly and treated with compassion and professionalism which made a huge difference to a stressful experience. Thanks to the whole team for your friendly care and compassion.

Despite a slight mix up over my husband being allowed to stay with me, everyone has been incredibly kind, courteous and involving.

I had the honour of meeting with Sandeep Dahiya at the Rheumatology Department on Thursday 6th August. He explained everything very clearly and gave me helpful advice on improving my lifestyle. The questions I asked were answered in a full and understanding way. As a patient you don't know what to expect and feel nervous, Mr. Dahiya, put me at ease and gave me the necessary information on the procedure I was due. He was polite and very helpful. I will have no apprehensions the next time that I have an appointment with this gentleman. Thank you NHS and all the staff I met who were always helpful.
