Where to start. My Mum, in her 70s, was admitted due to 2 seizures on the trot. To start off, the ambulance crew dropped her on the floor trying to walk her backwards out of the back door, down a steep step whilst she was confused and in the post ectal phase of a seizure. She was dehydrated having not drunk anything that day. She had an MRI, didn't know who she was or who anyone else was, then didn't know where she was. Very unusual for her considering her seizures had been kept at bay for years. She was then suffered from delirium whilst on the Ward due to the dehydration, paranoid, wouldn't ear or drink because she thought the staff were trying to poison her. The Ward were suggesting she had dementia, but my step sister on day three of admission asked if it was the dehydration causing the delusions and hallucinations. Still nothing done. I was working away from home, so I emailed and asked the same question or whether her anti seizure meds (having read the insert online), could be causing her issues. Asked for a doctor to call me. No one rang. Day six I took guidance from CQC, emailed again, quoted them, the Mental Capacity Act, asked who had done the Mental Capacity Assessment, why hadn't they applied for DOLs authorisation as she couldn't consent and was at that point in real danger of dying of dehydration, as her kidneys were shutting down. Within two hours a lovely junior doctor rang me. He told me they were getting her on a drip immediately, but the whole team felt she had vascular dementia due to micro vascular changes detected on the scan. Low and behold 2 hours later she was back to normal and completely lucid and coherent. She was so close to her organs failing due to lack of fluids. She was then dehydrated again after almost a week in hospital, no fluid charts being done, which sent her delerius again and they had to stabalise her before transfer to another hospital. Told she would need another MRI as something else was going on. I've since contacted my Mum's Neurologist (with her consent) and she has looked at the first two scans that were done during her initial admission and she can't detect anything abnormal that would raise concern on the scan. Medication being changed as this is likely the cause of her seizures and hallucinations, with the complication of dehydration induced delirium. Unbelievable. Water is a basic need, it's basic care. I didn't need a medical degree to understand that, so why didn't this hospital and these health staff!!! I really feel sorry for those people who end up in these places and cannot advocate for themselves. They won't ring an ambulance now, as being in hospital caused more harm than good.

I’ve been in more hospitals than most people having heart problems for the last 16 years. The care I have received in Cramlington has been second to none. Understanding absolutely what is wrong with oneself has removed any trace of anxiety and the skills of the staff means I just have to be patient while I get better. It would be unfair to mention any one in particular. Well done Cramlington, it could only exist up north.

Terrible dishonest untrustworthy disrespectful towards patients outdated and unprofessional people who are working here. They choose the job it doesn't choose them. Enough with the praise from the ones who do that. They write whatever they want to on notes and they don't make any changes when they have done. Nurses who roll their eyes at any patients regardless of age and gender etc. They don't deserve any pay rise. Get on with the job you are not special or heroes some of the public need to get a grip on reality about this hospital and it's staff.

I was given the wrong drug. Which I am allergic to. Had a red wristband on stating my allergy and told staff I am severely allergic to. This is not a safe hospital. The care is disjointed. I have since learned that they don’t keep their records of your care correctly so mistakes/errors are logged. Examinations and tests were on my records that had never been done. It was my first and will be my last experience at this hospital.

After visiting my doctor & sent home with painkillers my son took me to A&E at this wonderful hospital. From the first moment I arrived I was treated quickly and efficiently by reception & triage. After multiple tests including an MRI scan I was admitted; & had my gallbladder removed 2 days later. I cannot speak highly enough of the staff who looked after me on ward 12 and everyone I came into contact with was very respectful & lovely. The treatment I received was second to none and a week later I'm in recovery with no problems. A big thank you to all the nursing staff & consulants at this hospital.

Seen by Gary for a carotid scan. He was very courteous, professional, friendly and carried out the scan very efficiently. . I was seen promptly and made aware of what he was doing and why. Couldn't fault any of the staff.

I have had two admissions, through A and E for emergencies linked to an ongoing condition ( cancer). From the point of arrival I have been treated with respect and courtesy by every single member of the hospital team, porters through to Consultants. I have been impressed with the detail of care offered, people taking trouble and going the extra mile to help, with no fuss. Over a ten day stay and a four day stay, I was quite poorly some of the time, and experienced much compassion as well as the skilled input of the nursing, medical and surgical staff. Communication has been excellent, with Consultants visiting often twice daily to update. The hospital is clean and well kept by friendly and helpful staff. The extensive food menu on offer is of a high standard and more nutritionally balanced than any I have experienced in other hospitals. I would recommend this hospital wholeheartedly.
