From the moment you enter this hospital until you leave you are treated with kindness and respect. I cannot praise highly enough the staff, every single person gives you the impression they just wanted you to have the best experience possible, and I did. I am from Cumbria and stayed overnight nearby to ensure I was on time, my husband came with me, he was also made to feel very welcome and allowed to stay with me. I was based in Ward 6 for aTKR and I was quickly booked in and made comfortable, everyone was cheerful and up for a bit of banter which helped me to settle in and kept me calm. The whole environment was immaculately clean and I got the impression that every detail had been considered to make the experience both safe and non threatening - no mean feat in a hospital, but one they achieved, you simply felt safe in their hands. A visit from the delightful anaesthetist put me at my ease and he went through that would happen with the spinal anaesthetic we quickly settled on Queen as the background music (always good to get priorities sorted out). When my theatre slot came up my husband (who had also been plied with many drinks) was allowed to go part way with me to the theatre, that was a nice touch. When we arrived at Reception a delightful gentle man looked after me until it was time for the op. I met up with the anaethetist again who went through how the spinal would be done, what would happen at each point and assured me he would be with me throughout, I wouldn't hear anything concerning and I should just concentrate on Queen. In what appeared to be a few minutes he was chatting to me, saying everything had gone well and I would go through to Recovery. Mr Kramer said it had gone well so clearly I was very happy. I don't know where they get their staff from but at every point the staff were amazing. Back on the ward and I was constantly checked and made comfortable. As it was quite late in the afternoon I couldn't go home that night as planned and had to wait for the physios the following day to clear me for going home. Once again the night staff were great and, despite being very busy, kept a close eye on us. The following morning was fairly hectic, physio, nurse practitioner, consultant, pharmacist X-ray etc and a very comprehensive range of information and advice was gathered together in a very efficient way - it summed up my experience really, everything had been thought through and put together in an intense package, but you never felt anyone was simply going through the motions, they clearly cared. I left Ward 6 at 12.30 and was escorted to the main entrance by one of the lovely blonde ladies who managed to get a huge wheelchair from somewhere and managed to get me, and all my bags, to the pick up point where my husband was waiting, and helped load me into our car. I do hope North Tyneside Management appreciate how amazing their staff are. I"d like to give a massive thank you to everyone on Ward 6, the theatres, not forgetting a porter who we bumped into at the front entrance who guided us to Ward 6 rather than simply give instructions. I felt safe, cared for and had a good laugh along the way, you truly have an excellent hospital and I hope you are justifiably proud of your staff and volunteers. Thank you so much for your skills, care and warmth, a winning combination and one which should be help up as an exemplar for others to follow.

In-patient and out-patient, definitely the best hospital I have had to visit. In particular on the recovery orthopaedic ward, excellent staff and the hospital food was actually tasty! Great treatment at all times. Spotless facilities that I saw and I've never had to wait too long at appointments.

My biggest disappointment is the smoking that goes on outside the main entrance of the hospital. For a heath centre I find this totally unacceptable. I accept that people smoke and that some of them have very little good going on in their lives but there should be a better system, a smoking cabin, for these people. It’s not acceptable in 2025 to have all of your non smoking patients having to walk through a wall of smoke when entering the hospital.

I had a knee replacement on the 28th Oct. 2024 and had wonderful treatment from the surgent and his team to the care in the ward before and after the operation. I would definately recommend this hospital and also the after care that followed after returning home the same day (which was my choice I could have stayed over night) the next day I received a phone call checking I was alright and making sure I had the telephone number to contact them if I have any problems. Couldn't ask for better tratment.

I recently had to undergo full ankle replacement surgery. The medical, nursing and support staff working with my surgeon Mr Kakwani all treated me with care, consideration and dignity. I have a severe needle phobia and almost without exception everyone who cared for me was understanding and made efforts to put me at ease during the necessary procedures including blood sampling and anaesthetics. I have only admiration for the skill and knowledge of the staff who looked after me together with their very professional and caring attitude towards their patients.

Having given my opinion of Mr.Cloke and his Secretary I can now, with full confidence add another such positive review of Surgeon, Mr. Kramer. Over the years I have known him and received two hips, I can speak of how much confidence I have in this Gentleman. After visiting Rake Lane recently, I was so pleased and amazed to hear he was still performing his duties. " Good on Him ". Thank you for now.
