The gynae/oncologist consultants are fabulous, spot on with knowledge and work well as a team. They are caring, honest and supportive. In outpatients, staff are also extremely good, appointments are not often delayed and patients are not rushed. Theatre staff were marvellous on the day of the op, as were HDU nurses who were there the whole time I was on their ward. On the ward, things were a bit different: some nurses were very kind and caring, trying to cope in a difficult, pandemic environment. However, there were some who really stayed away from patients as much as possible, such that patients felt that any questions or emotional/mental health issues could not be addressed - it was a lonely few days. In my opinion, a lot of thought needs to go towards The catering - the food was deplorably cooked/overcooked, although the variety on offer was quite good. Maybe less choice and better preparation?

All I can say is that every member of staff that I came across were so thoughtful and kind. Each and every member of staff were professional and put me at total ease - Thank you to everyone at the Liverpool Women's Hospital - You are all 'stars' x A special thank you to Specialist Nurse - Fiona - who keeps in touch with me to make sure I am OK and goes through any further treatment needed etc. - - Cheers Fiona x

I recently underwent surgery for a total hysterectomy and removal of very large cyst. Mr Thangesweran Ayakannu Consultant Gynaecologist Surgeon preformed my surgery and I have nothing but the highest regards for such a lovely person he made me feel confident in his ability but more than this he was empathetic to my needs showing a warm human side to what has to be a very stressful profession. I hope he gets to read this as I cannot thank him enough for his care both pre/ post surgery . On the down side I found the nursing care to be dreadful post surgery with absolutely no help from nursing staff at first I thought it was because the room I was in was a quite one so I assumed staff were busy elsewhere, but once I was able to walk about I was confronted by the same experience I'd had by nearly all other patients again lack of care. For me there was nobody to help wash or get belongings out ready to wash no one to show how to move in and out of bed especially after the kind of surgery I'd had laparotomy I was horrified scared and unsure if I was doing things correctly surely this isn't how it's supposed to be especially on a surgical ward post op the only time staff were seen was at medication and bp times hours in between went by no staff. Pressing call bell (everyone was pressing) bells ringing constantly taking at time up 20/30 minutes to answer to be told be there soon only having to repress bell to call again often. I am a nurse myself and I fully understand the pressures of this job but I feel apart from one staff nurse who I had assumed had worked on the ward for years but had only been there one year thank god for this nurse she showed patience care fully understood the problems that occur post op I was in a very low place and wracked with pain day two when I was cared by this nurse who gave me the strength to battle through my pain helped me understand what was happening to my body and sorted correct pain relief her name is Sally my time on ward was 24/09/2019 I if possible I hope this nurse gets to read this as she is a credit to her profession I was going to add maybe staff shortage etc puts staff moral at a low and increased pressure on staff stops them from preforming as they are able but then how come Sally was able to show care and compassion she should be promoted to sister as at no point in my journey was any sister/manager seen on the ward.

Theatre and surgical staff were fantastic. Ward care is obviously stretched -simple things such as opening pre-packed food for patients just out of surgery who can't move to do so themselves and making sure patients water is topped up would make a big difference.
