Like all hospitals, there were times when staff were overloaded. As I was only in hospital for 2 days, my experience is based on very little. Staff were caring, food was good, on the whole not a lot to complain about, but room for improvement.
I have had a lot of treatment at the Lister Hospital (inc QE2 at Welwyn and Mount Vernon at Northwood) inc surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, plastic surgery, emergency treatment. At all times the staff have treated me like I matter and I never get a sense of the pressure they are under. It would have been useful to have been given advice about the parking options for patients that have to have frequent treatments that take time (there is apparently a parking pass you can buy) and it would be helpful if there were more water fountains available at the Lister.
I recently had surgery for a Laparoscopic Bilateral Hernia under the care of Mr Farinella and his team i found him to be friendly and explained what was going to happen on the day. All the staff were wonderful to me and most kind and wouldnt hesitate to recommend them all
The staff, both clinical and administrative, are excellent throughout, the clinic is shabby, the consulting rooms especially so, and one is forced to discuss such details as medicines and diet at the counter in the waiting room- such a lack of privacy and respect is a disgrace. The pharmacy likewise. These facilities are simply not adequate, and do not reflect the quality of the care or the staff.
I had a left knee replacement 3rd Feb 2018 by Stephen Tai's team. I was impressed with the team work from the top down to staff bringing the food round, it was so efficient and caring. It was such a pleasure to walk without pain and to find I am now walking upright and able to do so much more. This operation together with cataract lens replacement must enable so many people to get back to a more normal life and give the most added value to the costs involved. I have also been involved with treatment for urinary tract infections which were traced to enlarged prostate. I have been discharged from both clinics and am so thankful to the teams involved.
