Review of King George’s - Accident & Emergency
4th April 2024

The staff spent lots and of time letting people wait , I was on pain but they don’t care at all they keep me 9 H then they said take pain killers. Really disappointing about how they treated me. I was with my c2 children and baby. Without food my kids from when they come from school they didn’t have any food only snacks. And when I complained, they said sorry . Is busy . I swear that day wasn’t too busy but they work too slow . With too long protocol.

Suggested improvements
As a patient, I want to see the doctor directly.Immediately when I went to the hospital take my information then send me to a doctor don’t spent my time asking and writing and see 100 nurse wait 9 hours to see a doctor who is unqualified to give me medication.

AE was very busy long wait but checked every couple of hours Given meds for pain Lots of people moaning staff were very kind and explained why there was a long wait

Suggested improvements
People being sick would have been better to be removed to another section If you needed xrays scans perhaps coukd be done 1st rather then waiting for hours Children should have their own reception and taken into their area quicker there were a lot of children brought in rather then waiting in long queues with others unfair when their in pain or crying

Having waited almost 14 hours in A&E with a shoulder problem the staff on duty were very pleasant and did their best as it was very busy and I was told there was only 1 doctor on duty. I also had to complain about the cleaner on duty a lady with black hair who was cleaning the floor in the Department, I was standing by the desk asking the nurse if she had any idea of how far in queue I was and the cleaner used the mop and almost knocked me off my feet, I asked her if she hadn’t seen me, and she mumbled something that I didn’t understand! Because I was in so much pain I just did not have the energy to argue with her, but I was very disappointed in her action! My husband did speak to the duty nurse in charge and made a complaint. Apart from that and the wait I have a lot of sympathy and respect for the NHS and continue to pray their protection!

Suggested improvements
More doctors and specialist on duty or on call in the night to lessen the waiting period!

Review of Erica Ward

When I arrived in the morning about 7am, they still attended to me even though they were short of bed spaces - my observation was carried out, they apologised for the shortage of bed space and immediately they took me to Day Unit where a bed was allocated to me and I was taken to the theatre and back to Erica ward afterwards. My allocated Nurse Debbie is super-experienced in caring and treating neuro-surgery patients. She is very welcoming and compassionate. Dr Ahmed Ramadan Sadek and his team are teams of experts that make you feel at home with their excellent welcoming approach and working with excellent teams of radiologist and anaesthetist, porters, and experienced - all working together made my day they walked me from Day Unit to the theatre for my operation. They made me feel part of them

Suggested improvements
At the moment, with my experience - I think things are okay on the ward but there is always room for improvement.

I had major surgery on the 21st March, got discharged on 27th March, sent home with 2 dressings for my large wounds, one being an open wound, 39 clips/staples in my abdomen, no aftercare or district nurses set up for me, still can’t walk or sit up as I also have stitches in my back passage! I now think I have an infection as in a lot of pain! The only care I received was from my stoma nurses who were lovely Absolutely disgusting I am trying to sort out care myself from my bed

Suggested improvements
You could have looked after me better,, cleaned my wounds & dressings, or referred me to district nurses immediately

My Mum went straight into a cubicle with her 2 daughters and had excellent care. It did not take long for her to transfer to a ward. She was even given food.

Good communication apart from one or two occasions probably due to very high work load at the A&E department. Some of the doctors asked me again the reason I visited A&E. They should read the information provided by the patient earlier before speaking with them.

Suggested improvements
Increase the A&E department capacity to deal with the very high work load. Doctors should read the information provided by the patient earlier before speaking with them so they do not ask the patient again about the reason they visit A&E.
