Review of King George’s - Accident & Emergency
16th April 2024

Left waiting for long periods between being seen for triage to doctor to consultant. After the consultant said no new for scan, just have pain killers and can go, I had to wait over an hour before someone came to give me pain killers, then another hour and a half before I asked having become impatient and asked the clinical team to remove my cannula so I could actually leave. No prescription for pain killers provided.

Suggested improvements
Between the triage and the clinical team there needs to be better notes or communication on the system about the patient and what has been discussed, what treatment is prescribed, test results etc. Each time I made an enquiry it seemed like no one knew at what stage I was at.

The only problem I had was I knew more needed to be done to the problem with my knee. Previously, the hospital would have dealt with it as an impatient and I wouldn’t have gone back home in the same amount of pain as when I came in. The usual procedures were taken and I’m grateful for them stopping my sickness and getting my blood pressure back to normal. But I’m still hopping on one leg and in a lot of pain. I received immediate treatment which was fantastic. I’m truly grateful for that.

Suggested improvements
Given me a MRI scan to deal with the issue. An X-ray would not determine the main problem.

Majority of nurses very thoughtful, although after using buzzer multiple times in Majors I was ignored. I was left on commode and forgotten about, which was distressing. Two nurses were very kind though, and helped me greatly. They gave me a thorough wash and helped me lots.

Suggested improvements
Security needs to be more effective. There are more security guards than nurses, however they just seem to watch people kick off and do not take action. Screaming woman on the floor by my room, was left to whail continuously. A woman tried to come room, my daughter stopped her. She was clearly intoxicated/on drugs and left when my daughter told her to, she did get angry initially. No security invention at all.

I felt that my treatment was excellant. The staff were very attentive all the time. They also treated my wife with the same dignity as I am deaf so needed her with me to communicate.

Suggested improvements
No I dont think they could have done any better.

My mum has alzheimers and from the time we arrived in the ambulance they were brillant with her. Never left her side. The doctors and nurses were very kind. They communicated with us about every step they were doing.

Suggested improvements
You did everything we could ask. I did request a sandwich and drink for mum which didn't turn up,but we bought it from Costa.
