My father in law has kidney cancer and was seen in September 2023. The registrar doctor said he needed it removed and would refer him to a surgeon who specialises in this. Jan 2024 got operation date, but because he had to wait 4 months it's too late his cancer has now spread to his liver and he is too unwell to have treatment, so they say. The whole department of Urology is to blame and they neglected my father in law and didn't offer him anything. I'm disgusted and due to their lack of care and treatment they have killed him. I will be taking this further. I would suggest if you have suspected cancer don't go to Kettering General hospital.

Medical gaslighting - symptoms get dismissed, Got sent over by GP after raising red flags with lower back back that started over a week ago, and has got worse now having pain up back, neck, arms, hands, legs and feet with change of sensations and feeling of weakness. got to A+E, Triaged etc all good, had a bladder scan which was normal which I knew it would be - I have no problem toileting, Doctor then called me in: Bladder scan fine - so discharged with pain relief, “I’ll prescribe 5 days worth but only take for 3 days ? So left A+E after being discharged, still in agony, unable to move freely still and on and off tears because of the pain. To go back to GP if no better? So they will probably send me back to A+E?

I had a simply awful labour experience at KGH. The department was understaffed and the midwife leading my birth actually explained that her main experience was of community midwifery and that she felt underqualified. She had however, been put in charge of a student and did a woeful job of balancing my experience with that of the student. She allowed the student to undertake unnecessary, painful and lengthy examinations of me for her own gain and completely disregarded my pain and panic. Throughout the birth, choices were made without my involvement or consent including from the outset, the immediate forced removal of my own TENS machine, which was not justified or necessary. Midwives and staff on the unit in general disregarded my pain relief choices and also disallowed me from remaining mobile with no justification- their behaviour was marked by disinterest and unkindness. The number of errors made in my care overall, there were many, were later explained to me by a representative from the hospital at a debrief appointment and I did receive an apology, including for the fact that my birth experience almost certainly would not have ended with a c-section had better choices been made by the negligent, under-experienced midwife. The hospital have acknowledge that their care, in my case, was wholly inadequate and dangerous to both myself and my baby. They have fallen short of amending the record of my birth however, which states a number of incorrect details, including that my baby was taken to ‘special care’ after birth, when he was not. Perhaps he should have been, but the hospital have refused to acknowledge why this error cannot be rectified. I hoped for so much from my birth experience at KGH- I had given birth before, went into my labour physically and mentally prepared and feeling strong- the outcome of the awful experience I endured, the processes and decisions that were inflicted upon me, have left me suffering the effects of PTSD on a daily basis. I have undertaken a lengthy process of therapy to support my recovery but still have flashbacks to the many painful and humiliating errors and basic acts of unkindness that I experienced. I do hope that this is not representative of all care at KGH and I’m sure that on different days and with different midwives women have very different experiences. This was my experience though so it does seem luck of the draw and this should never be the case.

I didn’t feel safe in the care at KGH 1. They didn’t address me correctly 2. They didn’t make sure my bedding was clean 3. They didn’t give me information as to what is happening to me or when I’m leaving 4. The dr that visited may of well gone back to school 5. The care I received could of been improved

KGH have acknowledged the traumatic and unsatisfactory nature of my birth experience with them, which unfortunately included a long list of mistakes and problems which led to a dangerous, humiliating birth scenario. They have apologised and have claimed that ‘lessons will be learnt’. At no point has anybody indicted a specific lesson that will be learnt though, and so unfortunately this all seems rather unlikely. On this basis, I couldn’t possibly recommend this hospital to anybody.

The staff working in the Accident and Emergency Pod during the morning of Thursday 8th December were amazing. Vida (Healthcare Assistant) was kind and supportive of my partner and myself during the course of his stay there. She was polite and respectful and able to show compassion when it was needed the most. I would also like to thank the Pod’s Discharge Coordinator, Alice for supporting my partner during this very difficult time. She listened and supported him, doing what she could to ease the difficulties he faced. I’m sure they will keep proving a valuable service to the Department and more generally, the Hospital. It’s considerate people like these who keep staff and patient morale high.

Attended A&E with my partner, he has a tumour growing out of his skull and this caused him so much pain when we eventually got in IV Morphine was barely touching it. Rather than wait 2 hours + for an ambulance I drove him in, it was 1am so not busy. I am 5'4 8 stone, my partner was dizzy, vomiting, screaming in pain, could not move his head or neck, could barely walk so I parked right outside the doors, half on the pavement so there was plenty of room for an ambulance to get past (I have a nissan micra so not a big car). On arrival I was met by a security guard who - despite seeing my partner screaming in agony with a towel around his neck, hanging out of the car and me in tears told me I could not park there. I told him I would move it but my priority was potentially saving my partners life by getting him into the building. He told me where the wheelchairs were then proceeded to watch over me, arms folded like I was a criminal whilst I struggled to get my partner out of the car, into the (very old rickety) wheelchair and into a&e before again reminding me I may get a fine if I did not move my car. My partner is now in a specialist neurology ward - possibly facing brain surgery. That is how serious his condition is. I am not sure if the security guard is fed up with people misusing A&E (understandable), having to tackle challenging behaviour or was having a bad night. However, a bit of compassion and humanity would not go amiss when someone's life is in danger and their loved on is trying to get them emergency care. I am not stupid; I know I shouldn't park there but if it's a difference between life and death I am sorry, but I will park on the roof if I need to. My constructive feedback would be: Security - it's a tough job but please have a bit of compassion and don't treat people like dirt. Parking - In the absence of getting an ambulance within two hours which could endanger life there needs to be somewhere closer to the doors for family/ carers to access the building in such an emergency. There were barely any staff, so I had to transport him about and be his voice (he could not speak or communicate at this point). I could not just leave him there and drive off. I did move my car once he was in a bay and safe. Wheelchairs - please provide more near the doors so patients can get into the building safely. Even if they are rickety old ones, they do the job!

After being told an ambulance would be 2 hours we decided to make the trip to a&e in my car. My partner has two Chronic physical health conditions, one if which is Leukemia, he was in so much pain he was screaming out and crying. On arriving to the doors directly outside a&e a security guard challenged my parking, then proceeded to watch as I struggled to get a ricketey wheelchair and my partner into the building. Once we got in I cannot praise the A&E staff enough. The receptionist was compassionate and listened to the information I gave and we got in to see a nurse. She fought for a bed in Majors (thankyou) (which she shouldn't have to) and once we got into the bay the advanced nurse practitioner and the nurse - I believe his name was James Abraham were fantastic. James was so fast in getting pain relief into my partner and could not do enough to make him comfortable
