I arrived on kent ward for a gallbladder removal on 22nd of april and was very happy with my care on the ward, was greeted by very nice nurses that made me feel at ease as this was my first operation and was very nervous, my surgeon mr wilson was also very nice and explained the procedure well, cleaning was very good and the housekeeper carol was very freindly and lovely too really appreciated her lovely cup of tea after my surgery all in all a very pleasant experience!!! Also the theatre porters were very lovely and put me at ease when i was feeling very nervous!!
My experience of day surgery from Kent Ward was very positive. Thank you all for looking after me!
Care by the medical and ward staff was kind considerate and efficient
The hospital administration was not of a similar standard -- two appointments for different scans booked for the same time and addmission for treatment postponed after the initial appointment for 9 days
The ward was extremely well run and all the staff worked together as a team. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Even when it was busy they found time to keep an eye on you. Everyone was pleasant and there was a good morale.
The staff were quite clearly caring and compassionate. The food was very good. The overbed light in my room was broken. Staff knew this, it was waiting to be fixed. The tv didn't work because there was no remote control. I heard that the dishwasher was broken (but was fixed) and there was discussion about the oven working/not. There was no water the first night I was here. This is all additional pressure on the clinical staff, it sounds like the infrastructure needs more care. I was in for tests, not actually ill, but was treated very respectfully and kindly by all.
I am a patient with 15 years experience of emphysema - I stopped smoking fifteen years ago. I am a member of the British Lung foundation - regularly looked after by a consultant and team of respiratory nurses in Hampshire - I moved to Kent for the air and to be near my daughter. My admission to hospital was via ambulance called out due to severe exacerbation of COPD. and a very high temperature. I do not remember much after arriving in hospital I believe I was delirious . I was admitted 30th March and discharged 02nd April 2015. Leaving hospital the five pledges in the discharge book were not discussed with me at any time. During my hospital stay I do not remember eating anything as I was feeling sick and often wretched on an empty stomach. I was asked what I wanted for dinner but could not face food but at no time did any member of staff talk to me about not eating I had no appetite and cannot remember any member of staff helping me with this. I was mainly left to myself no idea what was happening .I was then discharged again no idea why I certainly was no where near being well and back home I still have the cough and am gradually getting better but this has been an experience I never want to go through .
again , To top this off a Junior Doctor was quite nasty tome on the day I was discharged, I left this hospital feeling totally wiped out and cannot remember any member of staff being kind to me. I arrived home to be told that I would now be full time on oxygen with a new machine in situ. will hopefully never go back to that ward fortunately I have support of family and friends helping me back to good health. When all about you is chaos it is important to retain a sense of humour.
Staff were, without exception, courteous and caring. The ward bay was kept scrupulously clean. On one or two occasions I felt that staff were "chasing their tails" and things might have happened more quickly had they concentrated on the task in hand.
During my stay I had a three way catheter. Some simple measures would make it much easier for mobile patients. Firstly a hook at the right level on the mobile platform for the catheter bag would make it much easier to move around. Secondly please make sure that the wheels work: of the two I had one was near impossible, the other was difficult. There is also nowhere in the toilets/washrooms to hang catheter bags. I put mine variously on the basin waste pipe, the rubbish bin and the disability handle. These are small matters and I do not want to sound critical of what was very good care. On the other hand I think that they would be relatively easy to put right.
All the staff were excellent, the nurses extreamly infotmative
Extremely lovely staff. :-).
All very friendly and very caring.
