I’ve been meaning to to write this review ever since I gave birth on 2nd September but hadn’t quite realised how little time I would have after giving birth to our son. I would like to say how impressed we were with our midwife ainsley rooke. She took over my care after the first few hours of arriving at the midwife led unit and immediately put me at ease with her confidence. SHe was assertive without being over bearing, she was clearly very competent, very calm, very warm and evidently excellent at her role as a midwife. Our sons birth didn’t go exactly to plan and despite doing a Hypnobirthing course I ended up in theatre for an episiotomy and forceps. Ainsley explained everything to us and gave the reasons why my treatment plan had changed. She really was excellent. She had a student midwife with her and together they really looked after us in a respectful way and our aftercare from them was excellent. I would be grateful if you could pas on this praise to ainsley and i strongly feel it is important for her to have this feedback. On a different note- I felt a little dissapointed at the midwife led unit itself. I had heard great things however when I arrived it had to be opened up for my arrival and was very cold. The first midwife we had did not know how to close down the air con unit and so I was labouring in a cold environment. There seemed a lack of understanding about how deep to fill the birthing pool and instead of the warm relaxed environment I was expecting I felt the unit was under used, very cold and clinical and not conducive to a relaxed birth. I appreciate this was not any individuals fault but it would be lovely If this unit was utilised- I would very much like to give birth in the midwife led unit if I am lucky enough to have a second child. For now, I can tell praise ainsley rooke enough and would be grateful if you could pass on my sentiments. Best wishes Zoe moulds
