From the moment we arrived on the unit with our daughter who had presented extremely poorly initially. The staff involved acted promptly and got our daughter stabilised. After moving from hdu to ward 130 all staff at all different levels have been brilliant with our daughter. Special thanks to everyone
I was in Castle Hill maxillofacial outpatient for a tooth removal. Team was absolutely amazing! I was scared and worried, each team member ensured me that I will be fine. I felt really at ease during surgery. Thank you very much.
Admitted by ambulance at around 4:00pm. Despite the Emergency Department being very busy, I was seen promptly, had a number of tests undertaken, was diagnosed, given appropriate medication and discharged within three hours. All the staff I came into contact with were excellent.
Attended A&E after been sent by my Physiotherapistwith chronic back pain/bladder control. From start to finish my care and treatment was first class. The Doctors took time and listened carefully as I described my conditions and symptoms. At each and every stage of my care I was informed as to what was to take place and why it was required as I was moved round various departments. The level of car and compassion shown to me was exceptional in what was a very difficult day for me and my Wife. The diagnosis and treament I required was fully explained to me as well as what I need to do in the following days should my condition detoriate. Many thanks to all the A&E staff and MRI department who looked after me so well during my visit.
The chairs in A&E are very uncomfortable especially for someone with back injurys or when waiting times are long due to busy periods.
I had a double discectomy at Hull on the 15th. September. I was only in hospital for two nights on ward 4 and the staff were excellent from auxiliaries, nursing staff, theatre staff and Physiotherapist. I would like to mention Helen and Jenny who were the nurses looking after me. they were fantastic putting me at ease, explaining procedures and processes even with a difficult patient on the ward who was particularly troublesome at night. Thank you all :-)
Very comforting experience, especially under the circumstances of my referral.
We came for a growth scan after reduced movements. This came out fine but after the scan no one seemed to know what was going on and when I asked so does this mean the current movements are his new normal as yesterday they told me to speak to a doctor afr r scan and they just said ‘we’ll put you on a monitor’... that’s not what I’m asking i just want to know what I’m supposed to do now. Have been left feeling stressed which is not good at 39 weeks pregnant
I was brought to A&E dept in pain after a nasty injury and was treated with kindness and efficient competence by all staff. I would particularly like to commend TACP Ryan West who immediately realised that my case was urgent due to compression of the median nerve at the site of my displaced wrist fracture. He alerted the consultant immediately and together they and another consultant worked quickly to reduce my fracture. After this he went to a great deal of trouble to try to arrange an appt at the fracture clinic near my home (Wexham Park Hospital) - sadly despite his best efforts, WPH were in contrast extremely unhelpful and refused to make an appt. I would also like to commend Sue Nutley (matron's office) and Teresa Riley (A&E) who went out of their way to ensure WPH received the Xrays after WPH told me they hadnt received them. Frankly the staff I met at HRI were all exemplary and in sharp contrast to my home hospital, Wexham Park
I will gloss over some of the negative experiences I had in Hull Royal and instead concentrate on the positive . I recently had to undergo an emergency operation on my spine and the care I received from the staff in Ward 4 was superb . They restored my faith in humanity . I would also mention the staff on Ward 500 who were equally worthy of praise . Nurses , physiotherapists , general ward staff , surgeons , cleaning ladies , everyone was cheerful and helpful and it was obvious that the staff had a very good working relationship leading to a very positive atmosphere. They will not remember me but I will never forget them ...... and I actually miss them !
My Wife came for a C-section and staff throughout were absolutely awesome in particular our Midwife Jo, the anesthetists Rona and Tracey and Gladys who's role I'm not sure of due to my lack of knowledge when it come to major operations. The level of professionalism, warmth and sense of humour made what could have been a very scary operation into something we will remember fondly.
One major gripe however would be that my wife and I are vegan and there were no vegan options other than sides available. This was the same on the ward as well as the canteen. As vegans this was a problem but it would also have been an issue for someone with an allergy to dairy. It saddens me that the Vegan diet is catered for in prison but is not catered for in a hospital. Further to this I find it very unsettling that a Hospital is not promoting a healthy diet but instead is encouraging patients to eat food that is full of carcinogens (thankfully I don't think HRI has a cancer ward). The vagan diet is becoming ever popular and seems to be catered for all across Hull and for that reason we ordered takeaway instead.
