I was greeted by the staff on Birch ward, a few checks, and taken to my ward. The ward was very clean, and tidy. Next steps were explained by the nursing team. The staff on birch ward were very polite, understanding and always smiling considering how busy they all are. After surgery the staff were very caring, and again understanding, especially as I wasn’t feeling great after the general. Night staff were busy and again very understanding and very helpful. To the whole team on Birch ward, thank you and keep up the great work.

I was welcomed by the staff on Birch ward, all the staff were polite and welcoming. The wards were very clean and well maintained. After surgery the staff looked after me well, checked in often, making sure I was comfortable. I couldn’t fault the care, the staff were really busy but always smiling and willing to help. All the staff involved in my surgery and care were excellent, and I thank you all for the great support and care.

I was admitted for a right total hip replacement and had a one-night stay on Birch Ward, My husband and I were welcomed by a ward clerk and show to my allocated bed with an explanation of who would be caring for me and that I would receive prompt visits from my consultant, theatre staff etc. This happened promptly as she had described and as I was first on the theatre list I didn't have time for anxiety. The theatre team were wonderful and particularly so as I had opted not to receive sedation. All proceeded as had been explained and the care given post operatively prior to my return to Birch Ward and on Birch Ward was excellent. There was a slight delay in being discharged whilst waiting for my prescribed medications from Pharmacy. After discharge I was confused by the several medications for pain relief i.e. what to take but I am sure not all were required at once. I decided to revert back to Co-codamol which I had been prescribed in the community and which I understood it's effects on me. Perhaps this could have been managed better although I know I could have telephoned the ward for assistance. The Hip Replacement Booklet has been very helpful in the lead up to surgery and post operatively along with the therapy exercises,

I had a left hip replacement at the Hinchingbrook hospital in 2022 performed by Mr Johnathan White. The operation went well and the aftercare was very good. The only criticism I have is that I was discharged without any follow up i.e. physiotherapy which would have been beneficial and was given only 1 sheet of A4 paper with some very basic exercises. Luckily I am computer literate and was able to find further exercises on the internet to help me along.

I was told to stay off work, whilst I was investigated for some tests. Initially, I had been to A and E a week before for the same issue, but only the second time I was bought in by ambulance. I was feeling poorly and couldn't put my finger on why I felt so unwell. These tests came and went, I was still waiting to be seen and given some results. Nothing. I contacted the relevant department only to be told I was now going to be seen by another hospital. No change in patient charter and I didn't request this, as it was miles away. It was already a done deal. I informed PALS. No joy there. After talking to the cardiology secretary, who sat there playing God, I realised that they didn't actually care about my situation, in fact, they didn't want to hear it. A wise Consultant, once told me, if your Dr sends you away for a long period of time, it is because they do not know what is wrong with you and hope by the time they see you next, your problem has been resolved. What a wise man. I am still waiting to be seen for results one year later. Would you have confidence in a service like this? Would you recommend the to friends or family? I rest my case.

As a health care professional I was deeply impressed with this hospital, the facilities and the staff. I could not have been in safer hands.
