My husband was cared for at home by the community palliative care team. He had Pancreatic cancer with liver secondaries. He was in a great deal of pain and felt weak and exhausted. His symptoms were very difficult for him, and for me to witness, and his pain was complex and difficult to manage. Once he was under the care of the virtual ward team he had excellent pain control and daily contact to check how he was doing. My only regret is that he wasn't referred to the virtual ward sooner. He has died at home, pain free, which is what he wanted. Other support was provided by Marie Curie night sitting service and the district nursing service and carers, which was due to the Palliative care Nurse making the referrals. Thank you so much for your care of my husband and support for me, so that I could continue to look after him at home.
