I was met and treated for the removal of a cancerous mole. Dr Chris Heaton and his Nurse Ann were both friendly and very informative making sure i was feeling ok as they saw i was a little apprehensive about the procedure. Each step of the procedure was carried out with my feelings in mind and i felt very comfortable and at ease. The care of my wound was explained well and the after care was amazing. Nurse Ann called me later in the day to see how i was and stated that the Dr had expressed a need for me to return in a week so that my wound could be assessed in its healing process, this was due to the size of the mole removed. I appreciated that call and the whole experience in the Hospital today.

I like the friendly, caring nature of my Community Midwife and how she explains things to me. As a first time mum this gives me reassurance and confidence in decisions she made about me and my baby. However, in QA I felt as though I was questioned at times as to why I was at appointments. I didn't receive letters about appointments and when I called to find this information out was abruptly told 'people are proritised' and rudely told when my appointment was (never recieved a letter for this in the end). Professionals questioned my Community Midwifes choices infront of me asking me why I was there and why scans etc hadn't been booked beforehand. I was even questioned as to why I'd to home to QA for an appointment. Midwife referred for scans that didn't happen and instead saw a consultant. Went for a growth scan at 38 weeks eventually and was told scan was fine by sonographer and that I could leave. Following the scan 2 midwives were concerned as to why this person had let me go without speaking to someone and actually the scan wasn't 'fine' in my particular case. This all added to my own personal stresses and anxieties which concerned me could affect the baby. As a first time mum I sometimes think it was forgotten that I didn't have knowledge of antenatal services, jargon and processes. I put my trust into professionals who I feel at times let me down and raised my stress levels.

As a First Time mum I have recently attended the free parent education and breastfeeding classes offered at Blakes with my husband, and we have come away with some great information. Learning about all the different situations that can arise during labour and understanding the ways that complications can be managed (including pros and cons of different pain reliefs) has helped me to feel more empowered about my labour day, as well as the days that follow once my baby is born. Not having any family members or close friends with young babies to ask questions of has been tough going but these classes have provided some great support. I would highly recommend them to any expectant parent. Along with the classes, it has been a pleasure getting to know my appointed midwife Sally throughout my pregnancy journey and have always felt very comfortable at my antenatal appointments. No question is deemed silly and all information she gives is very clear and without judgement. The student midwife who has also been present at some of my appointments with Sally is lovely and has also been great, I believe she will go far :) (sorry I can't remember her name!)

Disappointed, disgusted, let down by 90% of the women that cared for me. They are trained to provide a sense of care, a care they are born with from there heart, unfortunately all Midwife’s and health visitors have lost not only the funding but the respect for women, the system and most of all there heart! It’s just a job to them and they speak to each other like dirt and the patients. They show vile, bitchiness, low morals and no patience and most of all inadicate training levels. Women should empower each other and praise the life they have produced, they should support them and provide for them, I feel a bad start in life for my daughter was made by others who just don’t care! Sort the nhs out before it’s too late. Show those midwifes how to care again. They need to teach and show others how to provide for there kids women need them!

The staff at GWMH are without the best in the business. I had a Gastroscopy, not a pleasant procedure, but the staff made it almost fun. We laughed a lot. I find your first question meaningless and self serving. I would hope that most NHS procedures are not elective and not a thing I would recommend to friends and family. But I would like to give some feedback about the appointment procedure. None of this reflects on the staff at GWMH. My appointment came in very quick time but the appointment letter looked like it was written on a 1970's typewriter. The only address on the letter was mine and QA hospital whilst the appointment was at GWMH. The letter did contain a briefing document on GWMH but I could have quite easily have made an assumption and gone to the wrong hospital. The letter did not tell me what procedure I was booked for. I thought I was going for a Colonoscopy. As GWMH was not mentioned in the letter it did not say where it is. I had to look it up on the internet to find the address. If anyone wishes to discuss this further you can contact me on SimonPCole@outlook.com.
