On 29th May 2015, I underwent a colonoscopy at Good Hope Hospital, as an outpatient. My purpose in writing is to commend the whole of the procedure and the excellent care and consideration which I received. I visited the Outpatient Clinic on 26th May, where the procedure was carefully explained to me by Gail. On the evening prior, and also the morning of the procedure, I was required to drink Moviprep to clear the bowel. I managed to take the Moviprep on the Thursday evening, although it did make me feel headachy and ill. On the morning of the examination I managed to consume the rest of the preparation with difficulty but was immediately sick and felt extremely debilitated and weak with a very bad headache. The sickness continued all of the morning, and I could not even keep sips of water down. With my husband’s help, I managed to get to the hospital for the appt at 2 p.m. From the moment I arrived, the nurses involved were caring, sympathetic and most considerate. Regardless of the problems, it was possible for me to have the procedure, and the findings thankfully found nothing untoward. I continued to be very poorly and the Doctor arranged for me to have 2 amounts of fluid intravenously, one whilst I was having the procedure and one afterwards (when I was sick again). I did not recover properly until the Sunday morning. My aim in writing is to commend the excellent care and consideration which I received. The nurses were extremely kind. My husband also received courtesy and consideration whilst he was waiting for me to be discharged. If it is possible, after such a lapse of time, to determine those who were involved, we should be most grateful if you would express our sincere gratitude for their sympathy, sincere care and excellent treatment. I apologise for the delay in writing but we have been on holiday for 2 weeks. With all good wishes Enid Manning

From entering day admissions til departure the service by the staff was excellent. The operation carried out by Dr Foster and his staff was first rate. From the care in recovery to my move to ward 16 was also of the highest standard. All aspects of my care til my discharge 4 days later by the doctors and nurses was of the highest standard. My bed was changed daily and the cleaning of the ward was very thorough Including floors walls furniture even down to the television. The food provide was always of excellent quality, hot and plenty of choice. The one hiccup was waiting for a bed to become available after the operation I believe a patient was waiting for transport home. Special mention for Dr Foster nurses On Ward 16 Paul,Sam and Victoria and assistants. Thank you all for the care given to me.

After a bronchoscopy (I talked the Doctor our of giving me any sedation), and then after my hernia operation - on both occasions, super care. I knew when I was OK to go home, but was not allowed to do so until later, when the nurses were 101% certain I was fit enough. Tea and toast to keep me quite! Thank you all.

During my short stay I was treated professionally, and politely by all members of staff, from the surgeon to the nursing staff. Although overworked they made it seem that nothing was too much trouble, and that their only concern that I, like all the other patients, should leave fit and well This was in both the Day Case Unit and on Ward 7..

The staff on Fothergill ward 2 were incredible. Kind, patient, empathetic - the list could go on. They made a very sad time for me much more bearable.

I feel the appointment system can be refined and improved regarding availability of dates on non-emergency visits

Only criticisms would be lack of attention to detail with cleaning, as the waiting room had dirty liquid splatters up the side of the wall. Treatment room was perfectly clean. Final criticism would be when patients are called it is too quiet. Shouting or a speaker system are needed... I'm 18 and almost missed my call, it must be much worse for elderly or hard of hearing patents

I attended the gastroenterology department for an endoscopy, I chose to have the throat spray rather than sedation. The team were constantly reassuring me and explained the procedure in great detail. Although not a pleasant experience it was not painful and was over with quite quickly. The nurses were fantastic, the endoscopist was lovely and constantly reassured me that i was doing fine. After the procedure i waited a little while before going off to another room for my results. I cannot thank the staff enough and because i have a copy of the report i can name them too. Dr Qureshi, Maggie Swietoniowska, Rebecca Bennett, Sr R Child- thank you so much.
