Review of Assessment and Rehabilitation Unit - GRH written by a patient
27th June 2016

My husband and myself both thought the care and treatment I received was exceptional. I was especially impressed with the way I was put at my ease by Dr Deering and the way I was treated as an individual, as I get very anxious in situations like hospital appointments. Many thanks to you all for making the appointment as easy as it could be. Mollie Chance

On such a stress day, I was very impressed by the service given. We were not left waiting for a moment, and the staff were very compassionate. It was also enhanced by the volunteer workers who escorted us to the different departments for the tests. To get a phone call in the morning, to attend the same day and have all tests, results and a consultant consultation by 4pm, you can't ask more from the NHS. Thank you

Review of ED (GRH) written by a family member

My wife was treated by reception, staff nurse Kate, and the nurse practitioner, Tom promptly and with consideration and professionalism. I am most grateful to them all. The seats in the reception area were not very comfortable. I suspect that for most of your customers they would not notice!

Review of Ward 3a written by a patient
17th June 2016

Seemed to be a lack of continuity of care between Doctors whom my case was passed between. Arrived by ambulance in distressed state. Admitting Doctor made it clear he wanted chest xray done within 6 hours to investigate something. He impressed this upon me before he left his shift. This was not done, and I had to remind doctors over next 5 days about this request. MRI and ultrasound were done, xray on 3rd day. Prof. Barr had no interest in looking for that result, and the xray has yet to be provided to my new consultant or GP (8 weeks waiting). Lost x-rays, disappointing, due to expense, time and radiation exposure, and chance they might have helped with a correct diagnosis. Prof Barr who became my consultant did not care to hear about my symptoms or the fact that my pain was on opposite side of gall bladder, saying "I only care about what I can cut out of you." Some attention to patient info might ensure he cuts out the correct part. He spent less than 15 seconds with me, not pulling curtain for privacy as other consultants were doing, just breezing through with interns who seemed to be having a hard time keeping up. I have since have GB removed, and original pain has not dissipated. Greater attention to my admititng symptoms when I arrived by ambulance, and follow through with xray, might have helped to better diagnose my problem. All staff treated me very well, with the exception of Prof. Barr, who was glib and had no time or interest in my case. All other care staff were compassionate, efficient and helpful. Impressed by all they manage. I was on Day Surgery ward for 5 days, I assume for observation, but was never certain if i was in line for surgery, or just being watched. Busy place. Grateful to many wonderful floor staff.

Review of Ward 3a written by a patient
16th June 2016

I felt that I was given the care I needed by friendly, polite and helpful staff with just the right amount of humour I needed. It was my first, and hopefully my last, experience of being an in-patient and the professional way I was handled made me feel as comfortable as I could've been. I felt I could have been more informed about why I was being tested for vital signs and why I needed anti-biotics and other injections but I am more than happy to accept that the pressure staff are under to deal with so many patients who all require unique care has an impact on this and I don't feel it's a big issue. Thanks to everyone who cares for me in 3a and to all of the staff who I met from the time I entered the hospital

Review of General Outpatients written by a patient

I suffer from severe chronic pain, during my appt I mentioned I had to return two days later for another appt. Knowing how much pain that would cause me, Sarah Lane went and spoke to the other person i was coming back to see, explained my position and arranged for me to be seen the same day so I would be spared the pain that would be caused by another visit. I cannot express my gratitude for this

Review of Orthopaedic Outpatients (GRH) written by a patient
14th June 2016

The care I received was outstanding by the nurse who looked after me today, she was very professional, caring and treated me with respect at all times. The consultant Dr Shah was kind considerate and very caring,he listened to my concerns and answered any questions that I had putting me at ease. When I entered the consulting room I was very nervous, but both the nurse and the Dr made me feel important and not just a number. I felt that my consultation was excellent. Communication was outstanding.

Review of Orthopaedic Outpatients (GRH) written by a patient

I received very good service in A & E after an accident falling and breaking arm and sustaining gash to head. This was the first time I have been in hospital for 44 years and was most impressed by the attention given to me. Fracture was set in a U-slab by the Plaster room staff who were extremely efficient and friendly and after 2 weeks a humeral brace was fitted. All appointments in the Fracture Clinic were well organised and all staff very helpful and friendly and although I have not been "signed off" yet would just like to say a big thank you to all consultants and staff on the Orthopeadic unit - one more xray then hopefully I will be given the all clear.
