The car park is too expensive
I accompanied my daughter to East Surrey Hospital at 7 pm yesterday and was immediately struck by how kind everyone was. Being greeted with a smile and cheerful voice makes all the difference and even children soon calmed down.
The waiting room was spotless and every patient seemed content. My daughter was seen after an hour and was quickly taken through all scans, blood tests etc. before being set up with a drip and at 1 o'clock taken to a ward.
I am deaf so asked the receptionists to call me a car and again nothing was too much trouble.
My daughter is now home with medication and follow ups to come.
After a similar experience myself at another hospital I feel that this one is one of the best and want to thank everyone we came into contact with. As an ex hospital worker myself I know just how easy it can be to treat patients as run of the mill, forgetting how worried and afraid they can be. Full marks to all the staff and a heartfelt "Thank you"
I was admitted to East Surrey hospital with sepsis recently , I had been discharged from gynae surgery at a private hospital only 24 hours before it came on . Nothing done wrong with the gynae surgery , I was just unlucky. The sepsis came out of nowhere and I became very, very sick very very quickly . I was lucky a first responder arrived , swiftly followed by the ambos who turned up like magic into my bedroom and took me straight to East Surrey , straight into resuss. Fabulous care and treatment from the moment I was handed over to when I was discharged 1 week later . Again, really very quickly a bed was found for me on a wonderful gynae ward. This was the NHS at it’s marvellous best. My thanks to the tremendously skilled and kind doctors and nurses who looked after me so well and also the other staff who made my in patient stay so good . We really should pay these wonderful people more. Thank you again.
Accident and Emergency. While the majority of the nurses were lovely, there was no information and/or conflictual information, so we didn't feel safe, informed or involved. We had no idea what was going on and no idea of timescales. When we asked questions we were met more often than not with annoyance and irritation.
Most of the staff were lovely as said but the doctor and some of the nurses were not 'trans' informed and kept mis gendering, sometimes even when corrected. It's possible we were treated less favourably because we corrected the misgendering.
Fast. Friendly. Efficient. Clean
My experience at the hospital was very pleasant. I didn’t have to wait long all the staff were friendly and efficient. Everywhere was clean and tidy .
Can’t think how to improve.
external signage can be improved, regarding the parking location and how to get from parking to the correct the entrance/department.
I have visited East Surrey Hospital on several occasions recently, and as a visitor. Apart from having to find parking which can be difficult. Everything inside the hospital is run with extreme efficiency and compassion.
Obviously A&E can be very busy, but the staff are marvellous, and we are so lucky to have them.
I knew it would be a wait, and the team did update today (2.8.22) and head nurse came to explain and diffuse really well. Special mention to I believe eloise, a senior HCA who made me laugh during a horrible time, my doctor was amazing, I didn't catch his name.
It was really busy, and seating was an issue especially for elderly coming in - what they could have enforced was people coming I'm with 2 or more family members and treating it like a day out, causing issues! Only one is needed, there is not enough space for them all. I feel sad for staff when some people sit there causing issues, saying how bad they are - blame those higher up, not the staff, they were working so hard today during unprecedented times, no doubt made worse with lack of GP support hence why people choose to go to a&e
