My Dad was admitted to hospital after a terrible fall in the Care home he is staying in. He ended up needing surgery for a very bad femur break. We live a long way from the hospital (90 minute drive) and tried over 20 times to get through to the Ward the day after his operation to see how he was. Constantly on hold or returned to Reception. When we did get through the staff were far too busy to spend time on the phone explaining how our Dad was. All we were told was he was receiving a unit of blood. We tried later on in the day to get through again and it was constantly engaged. We eventually got through at 10:30 pm at night and we were very worried and upset and had to plead with staff to let us speak to our Dad. It is such a worrying time for people that live so far away from the hospital and are unable to visit regularly. this was a major operation for an 82 year old man. He also said that he has constantly been pressing his buzzer as he is bedridden and no-one answers. He has a mobile phone but the room he is in does not allow him to make calls as no reception. We fully understand that the hospital is extremely busy but surely worried relatives should be able to speak to a member of staff that is willing to explain how things are going. We are his next of kin he has no-one else. The NHS is overstretched which is terrible.

I went to A&E in hopes of getting answers for my excruciating tailbone pain. I had already been to a different hospital and waited hours with no assistance and left. Here I waited only 20 mins for a doctor to see me. However I was not examined appropriately and my real diagnosis was missed. Had this doctor appropriately examined my tailbone he would have discovered I had a nasty infection growing and it required surgery. I was instead handed with painkillers and told to “ride the rollercoaster of pain” for my “sciatica”. Luckily, the next day I knew better and went to my GP (now they were finally open)! And I was diagnosed properly and immediately sent for surgery. Bad state of affairs.

The cleanliness of the hospital leaves a lot to be desired for a relatively new hospital. My partner was admitted and there was still coffee stains from a previous patient in her room, she was also fasting and there was evidence of previous food in the chair in the room. The cleaners are certainly letting the hospital down. I object to walking through a smoke fog and feel that something needs to be done about smokers in the vicinity of the doors. I also object to being unable to use the drop off parking places due to people leaving their vehicles there for hours on end. How difficult would it be to employ a parking attendant? Also build a shelter for smokers away from the main door and maternity unit.

If you can avoid this hospital do so. It's been my local hospital for the last 9 years and I've now withdrawn consent to be treated there even or especially in an emergency. The lack of respect for patients by staff is shocking. Staffmake inaporopriate disrespectful comments. I was told "don't be ridiculous" when I declared my PTSD. Drugs always came late when I was an in Patient for 2 weeks. I witnessed an elderly post op lady sobbing with pain from 10pm - 3 am when I demanded the gossiping nurses located 2 METRES from her bed call the anaesthetist for her - something they should have done 5 hours earlier. Nurses didn't answer bells so I had to crawl to the toilet multiple times as my leg was in plaster. I constantly hear of serious errors leading to death or serious injury happening here. I called out of hours with a severe pain emergency (undertreated pain can kill) to find the nurse on duty left me untreated and very distressed. In response to my formal complaint he said "he didn't feel qualified to treat me"- so why didn't he call the acute pain team? They are actually good. The Director of the Health Board (Scottish equivalent to Trust) on my complaint took zero action to improve things and routinely lies in response to important complaints;nothing is ever his - or their fault so what is he paid for? He has also persecuted me personally by obstructing my care there and elsewhere and slandering me multiple times #NotLibel. This amounts to Human Rights Article 3 abuse in law ie torture. I'm not alone. There is a culture of mediocrity and not surprisingly they have difficulty recruiting. Locus ask not to be sent here again. A junior surgeon could not locate a fist sized lipoma on my back and recalled me for ultrasound. I can see this lump in the mirror! My GP can feel it easily on exam. Surgeon wanted me to make another 70 mile round trip for an ultrasound to locate it a taxi fare of £90 when she could have walked up the corridor and got a supervisor to examine me. I walked away from any further treatment and got a letter from her telling me off. A friend's son was judged in the hearing of A&E waiting room ie including his mother, to have wrongly and inappropriately have had a motorcycle crash as he was out late up to no good. No he was travelling back from work his shift ends late at night and he hit a tree down across the road he couldn't possibly have seen. This new £22million Hospital is unsafe as it had of course inherited the same culture and staff of the old building. I am however full of praise for Dr Currie's HRT/Menopause Clinic: this excellent service can't be faulted. The Health Board rum I g this hospital needs to be closed down the standards of care fully investigated and a new culture has to come in.
