Review of Urgent Care Service (UCS) DPOW
6th February 2024

When first arrived I was left in pain.. as was very busy.. but soon as was seen I was rushed off and seen too with speed. The nurse looking after me was called Kate she was amazing and helped me through a very tough time.. even though was very busy. Don't think I would have got through with out her.. was told couldn't eat or drink and had a perforation and was very scared

Suggested improvements
Would have been nice to have been checked on as entering the hospital. I know there busy but if people was checked on arrival things may be wouldn't get so bad or things be avoided

Review of Honeysuckle Ward
20th December 2023

Staff on honeysuckle are amazing caring and nothing is to much trouble for them. The care they give is 100% and could ask for more from the HCA’s through to the nursing staff

Suggested improvements
Better chairs for the partners who are staying. Reclining chairs For all staff to knock before entering a room, some do however some just seem to just walk in. again this is all staff from the domestic / catering through to the nursing staff. Some staff did knock others just walked in each time

Review of Paediatric Outpatients DPOW
12th December 2023

The CDC nursery has been a big part of my sons life for a year and a half and not only his but me as his mum. The support network Caroline Russell and Amanda Bray gave me during the time my son has attended there will leave me forever thankfull. My son has additional needs and life can get very overwhelming and whenever I have struggled with my own emotions and worrys they have been the listening ear and gone above and beyond to support me also. These ladies are the most kindest people and are so good at what they do.

Suggested improvements
There is nothing I could possibly write here as our experience has been amazing throughout.

Review of Fracture Clinic DPOW
27th November 2023

I had an xray the week previous, and was asked to come to the fracture clinic. I sat and waited for an hour, before being told that the doctor wanted another xray So we went to the xray department and sat and waited for another 30 minutes It was an absolute waste of time sitting in the fracture clinic for over an hour. I am very disappointed with the hospital, as the 1st time I came for an xray, I was in and out within 15 minutes.

Suggested improvements
Sent me for an xray an hour earlier.

Review of Emergency Care Centre DPOW
23rd November 2023

Every stage of the procedure after registration was very well explained to me including why it was being done. After all the tests had been completed and analysed, a conclusion was reached as to what my problem was. My allocated doctor (who was first class) then explained in detail how to proceed with this problem (pills etc) and he made sure that I understood the instructions. This was my first time at A & E and i was expecting a lot worse after listening to other peoples stories however i was very surprised, hence my VERY GOOD mark.

Suggested improvements
On receipt of my prescription, I had to go all through the new carpark and into the hospital main building to find the pharmacy (Lloyds) hand in the note and wait (no problem with that) but there was an item/s on the on the note for medicine they did not have . Had to return to A & E and find somebody to remake the prescription with alternatives (which had to be discussed of course) I did not like doing that as all the doctors were working flat out seeing to emergencies. Back to Lloyds with the new prescription and wait, they were very good in explaining the various medicines and how to take them, I am very grateful for everything as it happened on this day Thank you all. Maybe the hospital pharmacy should be bigger it looked very cramped for them and us. How you could have done anything better I do not know.

Review of Blueberry Ward
8th November 2023

First of all, We had a slight tiff with the night staff as I was going to be induced the next day and because I wasn’t in active labour yet and visiting hours were over, they tried to make my partner go home which meant that I’d be in the hospital room on my own all night. I was already having mild contractions at this point from early labour and didn’t get any sleep the night before so as you can image, this sent me into a major panic and I told the staff that I would be discharging myself after having a panic attack. After the discharge papers were signed, the midwife asked me if I wanted her to check my dilation so I agreed. I was 3cm and she asked if I wanted another membrane sweep as I was very favourable so I agreed. She then said that both me and my partner could stay the night so we did. This was about 2am. At 5-6am they checked my dilation again and I was 8cm. That’s when they decided to give me the epidural as they knew I wanted one. They provided me with gas and air while I waited for this. Epidural was painless as they numbed my back before injecting. They then did change over with the day staff and one midwife stayed with us from that moment right up until I gave birth, she was the only one in the room when I was pushing. She was absolutely lovely and so reassuring. When I felt like giving up and was telling her that I couldn’t do it, she was so sweet and told me that baby was nearly out. Finally, baby had arrived and the delivery midwife made me feel so good about myself, telling me how much of a great job I did. Everyone goes on about how hospital food isn’t the nicest but I was actually really impressed with it, and the amount you get as well

Suggested improvements
I feel that birth partners should be allowed to stay the night when not in active labour/waiting to be induced. They’re not just there to watch the birth but for emotional support as well

Review of Emergency Care Centre DPOW
30th October 2023

I'm writing this now as I have my husband home, we visited the department a couple of weeks ago but I would like to thank the nurse in Ambulance handover Michelle who made sure my husband started his treatment but also the nurse in charge Annemarie. Annemarie was so very kind to us as a family, made sure I knew what was going on but also reassured us constantly and contacted me at home to give me updates. My husband waited nearly a day for a bed but I was reassured he had everything he needed.

Suggested improvements
Long bed waits
