This is a terrible hospital with restrictions that are abusive, management is appalling staff are always passing the buck, if you go outside they leave you waiting 40 minutes to get back inside and do not let you use the toilet in reception. They will not give you a strepsil for a sore throat after they have taken the packet because it needs to be prescribed by a doctor which they then don’t do. They take your heat patches away for a documented physical condition and say they will order you nhs heat patches ( which don’t exist ) and then don’t do this. They take away herbal supplements and do not let you have them back or contact the doctor to get them permitted. They do not allow you to have a single lozenge from a packet for a sore throat given to you by a nurse. They refuse to email your GP for your medical background and then refuse to let you have your prescribed medication from your GP even after a week of being there. They refuse to give you a single aspirin when you have a fever and swollen glands. Alarms as loud as fire alarms go off constantly. If you have dietary allergies they allow you to go without food ( no breakfast for 3 days ) lunches and dinners missed. They say you can discharge yourself without checking your mental history for even the past month and then use it to try to bully you when you make a complaint “ you can just go home”. They do not identify schizophrenic episodes and after a severe acute episode tell you are fine after 3 days when you are still experiencing psychotic symptoms. They take use safeguarding restrictions to bully and abuse patients and ignore a patient’s own GP and medications prescribed and documented serious complex medical needs. On no account go to this hospital, and if they tell you you can “go home”. GET OUT OF THERE IMMEDIATELY before you are worse then when you came in. I was brought in there in an ambulance and had no choice but no one should ever choose to go here. Every aspect designed to abuse power and make patient worse.

I was a patient at Beckton about ten years ago. I was bullied by staff and by other patients, and I had private property confiscated by staff. Apart from medication, no attempt was made to treat my condition (depression and anxiety). In fact, I was much more depressed and anxious when I left the hospital than when I arrived.

Management in this hospital are by far the worst. Very restrictive practices and safeguarding issues are a daily occurrence. The wards are very dangerous for patients for be on. There is always so much tension in the air. It is a very toxic and non therapeutic environment. The staff who are friendly and try to help are bullied and run ragged till they can no longer cope. They are extremely unprofessional and unethical in their behavior and practices. There is this strong negative culture among these people who cannot seem to break out of their bad practices. JUDITH - is the main manager and does not care one bit. Our complaints fall on deaf ears. DAMILOLA - is a staff on New Dawn. Extremely dishonest, manipulative, aggressive and does not have an ounce of compassion in her. This individual is known throughout the hospital as a rude and aggressive BULLY. Ola - Recently Left the post of New Dawn ward manager to become a manager in Ealing hospital! This person has to be mentioned because the negative effects of her bad working practices and treatment of both patients and staff towards are still being felt. MANY MANY restrictive practices, safeguarding issues and self harming incidents took place due to this individuals negligence and lack of compassion and care. This woman is so dishonest and so deceitful. She lied and talked herself into another job and left because she knows all the damage she has caused would catch up to her. AUDREY - Replacement New Dawn manager. Only been in the post a few months but already fallen into bad habits and negative and restrictive work practices. Dishonesty and manipulation seems to be a common theme. Every ward has staff like that who abuse their power. And the good staff who try to actually help patients are taken advantage of and bullied and driven out. And you should see how much these bullies enjoy jumping on patients and roughing them up. Its disgusting. These type of things are unacceptable. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO ACCOUNTABILITY. The CQC has to look beyond the little show these people put on for them when they visit. ASK the patients questions! Punish the bad staff. The actual ones who have power and are abusing it. Reward the good staff and give them positive reinforcement and incentives so they are happy to come in to work and continue to deliver good care. Something management should take on board! And treat the patients with dignity compassion and respect.

I was a patient in 2011, so quite some time ago, things may have improved (I really hope they have) this hospital has litrally scarred me for life. It has taken many years to come to terms with the abuse I witnessed and received. So many incidents happened in this place that were largely at the staffs fault. I have witnessed staff physically harming patients also me being one and being told nothing could happen as the didn’t believe me. I have witnessed staff deliberately starting fights between patients. I was not very well when I was here and may have been difficult but it is no reason to abuse power. Staff never had time for patients and frequently ignored them as well as display disrespectful behaviour. I would never advise anyone to send anyone here for care. Hayley

Ever you do do not send somebody to this hospital as they will not be looked after there is abuse and people are not respected regarding their rights under the mental health act if you got a person in the hospital you care about and you are the nearest relative use your rights under the mental health act 1983 to get them out of the hospital and if you are CCG do not send one of your patients to here under any circumstances Faithfully Heather Mclatchey
